JayW Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 I know this isnt a monster or anything but I have no idea how judge girth by looking at the fish. From the length on my rod the fish is 15-16 inches long. I am just curious how much you guys think this fish weighs. My guess would be like 2 pounds. Any opinions I would appreciate it so I can guess what my fish might weigh in the future. Thanks, Jason I'd say you're about right. Somewhere between 1-2 lbs. Quote
FatBoy Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 OBVIOUSLY, that fish is 1 lb, 11 and three quarters oz. Quote
Super User David P Posted May 20, 2007 Super User Posted May 20, 2007 that fish is 1lb , if that... No where near 2lbs.. Looks like 10 inches to me... then again I can't tell that, but it's def not over 1 1/2 lbs Quote
jomatty Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 looks like a healthy 1.5 pounder to me, although there is no way anyone can really tell... Quote
JayW Posted May 20, 2007 Author Posted May 20, 2007 looks like a healthy 1.5 pounder to me, although there is no way anyone can really tell...I agree. If it's actually a 16" fish it could be around 2#'s. I think we're all just guessing since there's no way of knowing exactly how long the butt grip, real seat and fore grip on that rod is. 8-) Quote

Looks 10 inches. Rods and grips can be all sizes, but that reel must be the size of my head then! Even without looking at anything BUT the fish, it just doesn't have the look of anything over 1.5 lbs. Quote

If you want to get technical. I'd say it was in the 1# range. I know that pics can be deceiving though. Tell you what... just for fun... I'm going to post 3 Bass I've caught. You try and guess what they weigh and I'll tell you later. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted May 20, 2007 Super User Posted May 20, 2007 #1 9lbs. #2 8lbs. #3 10lbs. Quote
JayW Posted May 20, 2007 Author Posted May 20, 2007 #1 9lbs. #2 8lbs. #3 10lbs. Nope! I'll tell soon. Wanna guess their length? Quote
Super User David P Posted May 20, 2007 Super User Posted May 20, 2007 They're all in the 5-7lb range. You're holding the fish forward, thus creating the image of a bigger fish.. Don't get me wrong, those fish are nice in size, but not 9 and 10lbs.. If I was to seriously guess... I'd say 6.5 for #1, roughly 23in #2 i'd say 5 #3 i'd say 5.5 Quote

I have no reason to lie. You're WAY off! That's why I say pics can be deceptive. The 12.11 Bass looks smaller than the 10.6 but it was no where near as big in real life. I had 2 people with me when I caught the 12.11 and 4 other boats came up to look at the fish. That fish was a monster but the pic just looks like crap. Maybe it was the fact that it was a cheap camera phone? The 13.1 was back in '98 and taken with a disposable camera. The 10.6 was last month and taken with my digital camera. 12.11 was also last month and taken with my cheapo phone. BTW, I'm 6' 1" and weigh 215#'s so maybe they look bigger with a smaller person holding them??? Here's another pic of the 13.1 taken with a polaroid in '98 Do you still think it's 5.5 lbs? :-? Quote
Super User David P Posted May 21, 2007 Super User Posted May 21, 2007 The 13.1 looks HUGE, look at the stomach.. The other ones though, jeezus, I never would of guessed... I totally believe you, but JEEZ. Not sure how the fish look so much smaller.. I still say, when a fish is on the ground, next to a rod and reel, it's a bit easier to tell, simply because they're all flat on the ground, you're holding the fish out, it's also taken from a distance away.. None the less, I'm baffled at how large those fish truly are. Quote

I just know that some times a pic can be deceiving. When I looked at the pic of the 12.11 I couldn't believe how much smaller it looked than in person. I mean, that fish was 27" long! The other 2 people with me said the same thing. Anyway, no big deal. I'm still upset to this day that that's the only pic I have of that fish. She was so pretty in real life. Maybe that's what I get for not bringing my good camera that day. :'( Quote

I think that if you have a larger background like scenery and junk in the back, it makes it look smaller. Take a picture with just a solid background or something and take it a bit closer to the camera... That may do the trick... I dont' know, I'm just guessing. Quote
jaskoh Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Hahahah, I realized that this thread was pretty much pointless so I tried to delete my post thinking it would kill the thread. To find out there is a huge discussion about it. About the length my small fish I measured my rod and where the fish started and ended. Thats how I know its 15-16 inches. I just find this kinda of funny. Glad the post wasnt a complete waste of space. Edit: My reel in this picture is a Sahara 1500FB. It is right around 4 inches even from the top of the spool to the bottom of the reel. After looking at the picture closely I realized the fish is more liek 14-15 inches instead of 15-16 inches. Closer to the 15 inches. Moral of the story, Pictures can be deceiving and you can not judge the size of a bass by a picture. Quote
