airborne_angler Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 My one and only Cavitron Buzzbait sat out in the elements and the skirt dried out and fell off. I dont have any other skirts at the moment so I wanted to see if putting a tube on would work. I see it possibly falling down the shank of the hook. What if I were to use a plastic wire tie as a way to "crimp" it on? If I can get the tube to stay on,is there any reason this wouldnt work? Quote
Super User Marty Posted October 1, 2008 Super User Posted October 1, 2008 If I can get the tube to stay on,is there any reason this wouldnt work? None whatsoever. Quote
airborne_angler Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 Ive had blowups on just a buzzbait, with no skirt before and was told that the skirt just gives the fish a target(larger profile) ...Sound right? Quote
bassdocktor Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I've seen stuff like that with spinner baits so I'd think it'd work here too. Maybe you could put an old worm in there to help hold it on. Put it in the tube and thread it all on? Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 1, 2008 Super User Posted October 1, 2008 Ive had blowups on just a buzzbait, with no skirt before and was told that the skirt just gives the fish a target(larger profile) ...Sound right? yup. Quote
DADto4 Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Why not try a dab of fishing glue(super glue),,, that will surely hold it in place Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted October 2, 2008 Super User Posted October 2, 2008 Nothing wrong with that. I would go another step and try a fluke, creature bait, soft frog,or a paddletail minnow bait say 4 inches Quote
memo43 Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 The blade is only to create the noise an distortion, the skirt/tube is what a fish will target, so pretty much any thing that will give a fish a target to stike it will. I have tried mine with the same concept as you are I was also seeing if a fish will strike them. they do memo Quote
-nick- Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Nothing wrong with that. I would go another step and try a fluke, creature bait, soft frog,or a paddletail minnow bait say 4 inches Yeah thats what i was gonna say with flukes put one of the regular flukes on it not the super flukes. I did that with one of my spinner baits the other day adn caught my first bass on a spinner bait. Quote
kikstand454 Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 ive been out wading around and caught so many bass that the skirt of my spinnerbait just fell apart. i kept throwing it, they kept biting it. i like how ur idea looks, i think i might go get a cheap walmart bzbt and start sticking things on it........ Super User .ghoti. Posted October 2, 2008 Super User Posted October 2, 2008 I keep a few buzzbaits rigged with Super Flukes instead of skirts. Rig it perfectly straight, and super glue it in place. Works better than a skirted buzzbait, some times. Quote
snapper G Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 No, don't see why not, I've also used red fish spinnerbaits and buzz baits for bass, And that's basically bas red fish buzz! Quote
jb_adams Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 You should try a large grub with a ribbon tail. I use a grub as a spinnerbait trailer and that ribbon tail gives "life" to a noisy bait and it's dynamite. I agree with the super fluke suggestion. If you ever want to add a skirt again, just use a quick skirt. They are sold separately for spinnerbaits. I did the same thing to one of my favorite buzzbaits. Quote
flipinstick88 Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 I have caught lots of fish on a skirtless buzzbait with just a split tail trailer. Quote
airborne_angler Posted October 5, 2008 Author Posted October 5, 2008 i tried it,worked well until mid cast a gust of wind blew my bait into a real tall tree. Thus the tree got to keep the bait :'( Quote
jb_adams Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I follow the belief of "No Bait Left Behind"..... I bought a "hound dog" several years ago. It's a bait recover tool. A big lead weight with a wire that follows your line into the water and retrieves baits. Recovered several crankbaits for it. Both in the water, and in big tall trees! ;D Just a few weeks ago, I overcast further than I thought I could reach and the wind pushed it up into the treetop before I could put the brakes on. I flung the ole' hound dog up there and after a few trys, got it out. I use 250lb test mason string and wind it up on an old Abu Ambassador with a sawed-off short grip Ugly Stick fishing rod. It's a wicked tool and a must for every boat. Quote
diver_sniper Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I had the same thing happen to a spinner bait and I also put a tube on it. Worked great. If I remember right I caught 3 fish in the first 6 or 7 casts. Not much size to em but hey, it's action. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted October 6, 2008 Super User Posted October 6, 2008 90% of my BB have something other than a skirt on them. Quote
Super User Raul Posted October 6, 2008 Super User Posted October 6, 2008 i tried it,worked well until mid cast a gust of wind blew my bait into a real tall tree. Thus the tree got to keep the bait :'( S*t happens. Quote
Super User CWB Posted October 6, 2008 Super User Posted October 6, 2008 Try a dab of superglue where the tube meets the head of the bait. Quote
TournyFish001 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 put a yamamoto 4" saltwater series swimbait on it- the white one... shhhhh.... :-X Quote
jb_adams Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 put a yamamoto 4" saltwater series swimbait on it- the white one... shhhhh.... :-X A local pro swears by those........I would imagine it would be great on a buzzbait. Quote
flatbass Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 A small plastic cable tie works very well for holding tails or skirts on. You can also use a fluke for the body. Quote
