This is a pic of a nice largemouth my Father-in-Law caught this weekend in a golfcourse pond behind his house.  I didn't have a scale handy but I was wondering based on size, how much this fish might weigh?

Thanks,

Jason

It is very difficult to estimate weight, pictures often make fish look bigger or smaller than they actually are. Just based on the pic, I would say this is a very typical "about five pounds" that wasn't weighed. If you put them on a scale, most "5 lb" bass would weigh around 3 lbs.

She looks fairly thick, so I'm gonna go 4 1/2 to 5 pounds. Nice fish!

There's no way that fish would be over 5 pounds.  Maybe 4 depending on girth and thickness, but most likely between 3 and 4 pounds.  My best guess would be about 3 1/2 pounds.

Like RW said, most "5lbers" are more near 3lbs.  I would say that fish is between 3-3 1/2lbs.

Dont you just love golf course ponds!

I agree with RW 's statement about overestimating fish weights but,  That fish looks to be a solid 5-6lb fish to me.

Ok so heres what I did....I was bored lol.

Average human finger is 3/4 inch wide.

Printed picture and used digital calipers to estimate length at 19"

Girth was measured per one side then doubled, then averaged by my log book, approximatly 15"

used a fish weight calculator and came up with a rough guess of

4.51 lbs!

Like I said I was bored......

Seriously Recon... you definitely have some time on your hands!!!   ;D

Jason:  looks like I need to take my rod next time I golf at __________ golf course.  (Name of golf course left blank so no one trespasses in Jason's father in law's backyard without asking his permission first).   ;D

Good work.  I would say, judging by its lack of continuous girth, that this fish is in the 20" range and weighs 3.5-3.75 lbs.

Nice fish!
