Took a couple of days off last week after a busy stretch at work. Needed to catch up on some chores around the house (and get in some fishing). After getting (most) of the chores done, decided I wanted to head down to the southern end of Lake Jordan, down near the dam and check it out; never been there before.

It's a large earthen dam. On the other side, down a hill is a nice flat. A big field that comes to the water with a lot of stumps and stick ups on the shore. Walk over and start tossing a buzz between the stumps and stickups. I get one strike, but it was short should have had a trailer. I throw some other top waters and a shallow crank that I eventually lost.

Knowing that its sticky down there I just start throwing a T-rigged senko. Bouncing it along the bottom and off the sticks and logs. I keep retrieving through some stickups right alongside some brush as I feel there has got to be some in there.

I am about to give up and move on when I feel a slight tug. Not sure if I hit a stick or what, but gave a good hook set anyway. To my surprise, the line jerks back and immediately darts back to the brush. The drag is going out and I am trying to be gentle as I have a pretty light rig for casting in stickups; a 7 ML fast action with 8 lb fluoro. Know that's crazy for sticks, but, the thought was that this area probably gets a lot of pressure and I wanted to be as stealthy as possible.

Knew that I had a good one, or, just a good fighter. Either way, wanted to land this one. I tried to gently coax it way from the sticks and keep it away from the brush. Was able to get it out in some open area and after fighting a little while was able to get it close to the bank. Was a little far down to comfortably lip it, so I grabbed the line to pull it on out. Just as it cleared the water and over the bank the line broke. Fortunately, it was not high off the ground and was on the edge. She was tired and couldn't move so I was able to lip her on up. It's a terrible picture, really can't see the girth of this little chub. She weighed in right at 4 lbs and 23 - check out that big ol gut.
