Guest Steve_P. Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Last Thursday, Champion Don and myself went out on the Farm to see what we could find. Starting out at 7:30AM in the South end of the Farm side, we quickly caught several small fish on plastics. The topwater bite was non-existant until about 10:00. Then all hell broke loose! The average size went up dramatically compared to the earlier plastics bite. The fish were exploding on the bait, which always makes for a good time. At about 12:30 the bite completely shut off. We decided to go try a few spots on the Stickmarsh side. The area we fished didn't have any hard stumps in it, just a LOT of brush. It's hard to say if there are a lot of fish in this area because the fish had already shut down down at that point. We did manage to catch a few there though and Don managed to tangle one up in some brush that broke him off just feet from the boat. We got a good look and we estimated her to be in the 9 to 11 pound range. That was a heart breaker for sure, but the brush in that particular area is very thick and it's very difficult to pull them out of that crap. Water levels are dropping. Idle only from the ramp cut to the cut on the East canal. Watch your sonar when coming off plane. The submerged roadbeds are getting closer to the surface on the Farm side. There is hope that the low water will allow the Hydrilla to take hold again. The strength/direction of the wind several days prior to your trip will determine your success out there. We ended the day with 36 fish to 7.5 pounds. We also had a 5.0 and three more at 4.75 pounds. It was a great day to be on the water. See you out there!! Quote
Guest avid Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Outstanding. Always like to read your posts, especially about the stickmarsh/farm13. Glad to hear it's waking up. I was talking to Mike at Whites tackle in Ft. Pierce. He told me about some idiot who got his $40,000 ranger torn up on when he planed over a formerly submerged stump. You said "topwater" instead of "Chug Bug" soooooooooooooooooooooooooo..........what was the killer bait. :-* Quote
Guest Steve_P. Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Chances are that that stump is still there, solid as a rock. Anyone planning on venturing out on Stickmarsh needs to exercise extreme caution now that the water is down. The lake has been pretty high since the 04 hurricanes, but that has changed. I didn't realize that I left out the name of the lure. CHUG BUG!! Quote
