Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 17, 2006 Author Posted October 17, 2006 Trees and stumps. LOTS of 'em! There really is no town, the Lake is out in the middle of farm country. There are local bait stores, diners, hotels, etc but no town so to say.
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 17, 2006 Author Posted October 17, 2006 And of course,....the Chubacabra. :-?
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 17, 2006 Super User Posted October 17, 2006 What? No dancing girls?
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 17, 2006 Author Posted October 17, 2006 He said 'things to look OUT for",...not "things to look for"
Super User flechero Posted October 17, 2006 Super User Posted October 17, 2006 What? No dancing girls? You're going to east Texas, my friend... BYOB and no dancing girls! The fishing normally makes up for the other two, though.
BASS fisherman Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Thanks guys, but I was refering more to wildlife, dangerous wildlife to be exact.
Super User cart7t Posted October 17, 2006 Super User Posted October 17, 2006 He said he would be roaming around... not sure what that means but a rule of thumb I've always adhered to, especially in rural areas and out in the woods is.. If you hear banjo music RUN!
BASS fisherman Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 He said he would be roaming around... not sure what that means but a rule of thumb I've always adhered to, especially in rural areas and out in the woods is.. If you hear banjo music RUN! Oh NO! When I said roaming around, I was thinking that I'll be walking around parts of the lake near the fisherman's cove RV park, and fishing late into the night.
Keithscatch Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 BF, just beware of your surroundings. There are Cottonmouths in that area and they roam around at night also. But if it is cold chances are you won't see any of them. But no reason to be walking around on the bank if you will have rented a boat. Just troll out into Williams cove there and fish the bank from the rental boat. One cove over Little Mustang is a good cove to fish at night. Lots of reeds around the bank that hold fish at night.
Super User Matt Fly Posted October 17, 2006 Super User Posted October 17, 2006 What? No dancing girls? I thought you were coming to catch one of our "dancing girls"? Last year when LBH and the boys did decide to take a break, i hit the lighted boat house and crappie fished every night. I caught lots of crappie and the owner gave us the minnow to share with all. Lots of brush under the boat slips. Fork does have some critters, but it will depend on how many days of warm weather we have consecutive to get them crawling. Fork also has eagles that migrate down to nest annually. You might see a gator or two in certain areas, or a few deer along the lakes edge. One thing about Fork is, you dont see the jet Fleas or other personal water craft very often. If you do, you can assume "they are a few french fries short of a Happy Meal", Way too much stumpage to play on Fork safely. Hookem Matt
Lane Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Glenn, We would love to take you and your wife out with us. It will be fun having another couple on the boat. We will have several lures, so you will have plenty of choices. We can work out the details beforehand. I like to use live crawfish when I am trophy hunting. Tony will probably use artificials. Either way, we should catch some BIG HAWGS! It will be fun!
Super User .ghoti. Posted October 17, 2006 Super User Posted October 17, 2006 Just got a look at the Spring 2007 schedule. Spring break is the week before the planned dates for the BassResource.com roadtrip, so, I'll be unable to attend. Iwas really hoping it would work out. Maybe next time. Good luck, and safe travels to all who are able to make the trip. GK

So another words, I can take the boat out at night as well? I didn't think that was possible, but as long as I put the gas back in that I used during the night, I don't think Avid would mind. Maybe he'll want to go as well.
Bassinfreak2 Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 I had planned on taking my own boat down but I have been hearing horror stories about the lake being so loaded with stumps that people damage thier boats all the time. Does the lake have boating lanes for higher speeds? I don't mind going at idle speeds in coves and pockets etc but that would take a looooong time moving around if all you could do was idle.
Lane Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Bassfreak, Fork does have boating lanes for higher speeds. The stumps have caused alot of accidents, so you need to exercise extreme caution. Basically you are fishing a flooded forest. There will be some avid Fork anglers that will be there to help out with navigation, etc.
Bassinfreak2 Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Lane Thanks for the info. I am really looking forward to this! Is it march yet???

Also, Lake Fork is probably not the safest lake to go out at night for a someone who has never been there.
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 17, 2006 Super User Posted October 17, 2006 Besides, nightime is for eatin', drinkin' and lyin'.
George Welcome Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Alrighty then: you have teased and taunted those that can't make this gathering quite enough - move it up above where the elite can view it and us peasants can go about our business. 8-)
RiskKid. Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Fishin, Eatin, Drinkin, Lyin...and Texas Dancin Girls to Boot....let's go for a month!!!!!
BASS fisherman Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Ya your right KU, taking a rented boat out into an unknown lake at night isn't the best idea. I plan on fishing 95% of the time since this may be a once in a lifetime trip. I'll be spending as much time on the water as I can, whether Im in a boat, or beating the bank, it's going to be alot of fun. I didn't think about the trolling motor batteries. How long will they take to recharge? Less than 9-12 hours I hope. Who all is bringing their state's beer? I plan on it, but honestly I don't like any of the Pa brewed beers, I think they are all mostly bad, but then again I like Budweiser, go figure.
cravenfish Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 OK OK I've seen enough about the food and readers who are going to be there! As soon as I get the 2007 fishing schedule for my tournemants,I'll see if I can be there! is there anybody going from the Richmond,VA area that might want to ride with me, I'll have boat in tow!
Super User Gatorbassman Posted October 17, 2006 Super User Posted October 17, 2006 Suzy, Some of us are bringing our wives. So to answer your question. Yes you are welcome to show up.
