Guest avid Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 See the "Lake Fork For information only" sticky. It has lots of relevant information including links to guides and fishing reports (see ETS systems link) avid
Super User Gatorbassman Posted January 13, 2007 Super User Posted January 13, 2007 Lake Fork has gotten four inches of rain so far today. http://www.weatherunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?zoommode=zoom&num=6&delay=15&rbscale=0.125&scale=0.237&noclutter=0&ID=SHV&type=NTP&lat=32.79125977&lon=-95.44428253&label=Quitman,%20TX&showstorms=0&map.x=318&map.y=173¢erx=1024¢ery=383&lightning=0&showlabels=1&rainsnow=0 And the lake is filling up. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/tx/nwis/uv/?site_no=08018800&agency_cd=USGS
Cigarlover 1 Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 And we're 86,400 seconds closer than we were at this point yesterday. Woo Hoo
RiskKid. Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 As one of the less experienced fisherpersons on the road trip I was wondering what everyone is planning on taking gear wise. Rods, reels, baits etc... If left to my own devices I'd surely be bringing too much of the wrong stuff! Hey Cigarlover....I'm thinkin we'll need at least two fine cigars a day....whats ya think??
Super User Gatorbassman Posted January 14, 2007 Super User Posted January 14, 2007 I've done hours of research on traditional lures and what has been catching the Sharelunkers on fork. I've come up with the short list of lures. First of all I am bringing a couple of heavy rods for flipping and bed fishing, but that is not my main plan. I am planing on fishing for staging fish due to the possibility of a cold front like last year. The list of lures are. Watermelon Red Super Fluke - Dead Sticking Watermelon Red or Green Pumpkin Sinko - Dead Sticking Red Lipless Crankbait - Search bait and working across grass flats and along creek channels. 1/2oz Black and Blue Jig - For flipping 3/8oz Spot Remover - For working the dropoffs close to spawning flats. A white spinnerbait w/ tandom willow leaf blades is not on my list because I have no confidence in them but they should be on anyones list who likes them.

This puts us all ahead of the game. I will certainly come prepared to fish those baits. I already have everything but the Super Fluke, but will remedy that shortly. BTW, there's extra sausage in your gumbo if you give me a couple of tips on fishing the fluke, not my confidence bait (I'm clueless). I hope your right about the Black & Blue Jig, one of my favorites. Thanks again for doing the leg work for us. Ronnie
Guest the_muddy_man Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 Ronnie I am surprised at you. Now I lived in New Orleans for some time and I know the rules. It is unethical to use Gumbo as a bribe, you should hang your head in shame Dominick
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 14, 2007 Super User Posted January 14, 2007 I'll probably bring everything I own. I'll probably fish a Senko, Fat Ika and a tube.

Everybody knows fishing is exempt! ;D Ronnie
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted January 14, 2007 Author Posted January 14, 2007 wow, I didn't realize New Yorkers were allowed to turn down a bribe,...lol I brought alot of stuff last year, won't be doing that this time. A bass is a bass, I went and spent all kinds of money buying everything in red, blah, blah, blah. I'll be using the usual stuff and then when the intel starts coming back, there are tackle shops everywhere. If RW and myself can't get them on plastic, I'll be looking to the ranks for a go to. That's right monkey. Sit. Heel. Chill.

The bait monkey can send him a thank you card. Since we are not flying and have a little more room, like RW, I will have everything + the kitchen sink with me. I too will be listening for what's gitten it done, but I will probably have it on hand. Weighed my "day box" this morning and it's only 34lbs (so far). LOL Ronnie
Lane Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 The Grandebass Mutant has been a VERY successful bait on Fork, especially during the spawn. I am also bringing live craws! Lane
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 14, 2007 Super User Posted January 14, 2007 Cheater. : Don't forget me. 8-)
Lane Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Roadwarrior, Don't worry, I will bring enough craws for us! VERY FEW people use live bait on Fork, in fact it is considered a TABOO by the locals. Don't know about you, but I am after BIG BASS! I don't give a darned what anyone else thinks about it. One of us is going to hit the jackpot! Lane
Guest the_muddy_man Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Hey Do they allow shiner fishing there because some of my lake time I want to fish with some hefty shiners I may only get this one chance on the Fork and Im lloking for a PB there?
