Super User Long Mike Posted December 14, 2006 Super User Posted December 14, 2006 I need new glasses. It wasn't until the day before yesterday that I learned that clicking on the subject of a thread does not list all of the postings in the thread - only page one. This explained why some of the postings I made did not show up. They were on another page. It wasn't until AVID posted that we should check the Lake Fork updates that I realized tha I had missed every post since mid-October. To make a long story short, I can't read the fine print about the number of pages posted unless I get very close to the screen - and I have a 19" CRT. Well, water under the bridge. CigarSmoker and I have confirmed reservations at Fisherman's Cove and reservations for a boat from Rickey's. I will attend all of the group meals with the possible exception of Alpster's. Alpster, your profile shows that you are from (choke) Yankee country. Unless you grew up in SOUTH Louisiana and know how to make a DARK Roux, I think I'll grab a burger in the restaurant. ;D Kidding aside, I'll eat anything put in front of me. I grew up in South Louisana. Everyone knows that we eat road kill. On a side note, for the group dinners, do we pass the hat with a minimum donation? That would seem to be a very fair way for the host to recoup his costs. Mike

I grew up in South Louisana. Everyone knows that we eat road kill. Hey Mike, I also grew up in south Louisiana. Spent most of my life in the New Orleans area and Buras (Plaquimine parish). The collapsed oil economy in the late 80s forced me and most everyone I knew out of La. - My roux looks kind of like hershey's chocalote syrup (like you put on your ice cream). I get paid several times a year to travel and feed 300 - 400 touring bikers gumbo & jambalya at rallies. I can furnish references if need be. You should give it a try before you head out to the Burger King. Ronnie
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 14, 2006 Author Posted December 14, 2006 I saw that coming,... Mike,.........now ya know. NEVER underestimate Ronnie!! I can't wait!!!!!
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 14, 2006 Author Posted December 14, 2006 Avid, When you get a rough idea of the number for each night, pick the largest number and give Linda at Fishermans cove marina a call and just reconfirm with her which nights the plans are for, how many people and roughly the time frame. Thank you. The place we will be eating in is a big wooden building with a big bar at one end with retauraunt kitchen behind it, a big dance floor and stage ( they do karaoke often) and a big game room attached to that. The pics online don't do it justice sizewise. it's pretty big. Booths, tables, etc. It is also directly attached to the hotel wing with the office in the middle.
Super User Gatorbassman Posted December 14, 2006 Super User Posted December 14, 2006 Alp, So your a good old Coon-azz. That's great. I can't wait to lay a lip on that gumbo.

Super User Long Mike Posted December 14, 2006 Super User Posted December 14, 2006 I posted this on the "General Bass Fishing" forum about a month ago , but got no takers. Now that I am Really on the right forum. I just want everyone to know that I will be driving down from Tulsa on Sunday. If anyone needs a ride to Fork from DFW or Love Field, I can pick you up and drop you off on Sunday and Friday - providing you are arriving and departing in the afternoons. I drive a Suburban so have penty of room for three passenger and their gear. If push comes to shove, I can handle six passengers, but your gear wiil be in your lap and you may have a rod tip or two up your nose. If anyone from the OK City area wants to hitch-hike and is willing to be picked up along I35, just let me know. BTW, my Suburban is a gas hog, and the trip to/from the airports(s) is about an hour out of my way in both direstions. A small contribution into the gas tank would much appreciated, but not required.
BassnJoe Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Man... ya'll are killin' me with this! This just sounds too good to miss. But, I just don't know what my health situation will be like at that time. Guess I'll just have to enjoy all the pics...and LBH's video! Hope to make it to next years' get-together. Joe 8-)
Guest avid Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Thanks to those who have replied so quickly. it looks like we are heading for a full house evey night. Riskkid will be bringing paper goods so let's hear it for him. And Glenn has offered to make a bread run. This is especially generous because Dominick needs genuine Semolina bread from a specialty store in Brooklyn, so WAY TO GO GLENN - Let's hear it for the big guy!!!!! There are still some folks who I haven't heard from yet and some Maybe, probablies, but I can tell you to figure on 20 - 30 for each night. I'll get in touch with everyone as well as the Marina to confirm that all is ok and post it all right here. So stay tuned. There are messages beaming aboard right now, gotta fly
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 14, 2006 Author Posted December 14, 2006 This "Avid" guy is alright I think we'll keep him
Super User Matt Fly Posted December 14, 2006 Super User Posted December 14, 2006 Mike didn't see what the boys packed last year. They brought some gear, more gear, and just when you thought you'd seen all 30 rods, another Rod box would appear. Not too mention that the LBH's fall and spring fashion clothing line was worn each day with other BPS accessories to match. Considering the weather showed them many different looks while they were in state. LOL,,,, I bet they don't bring the kitchen sink this year. Matt.
Super User Alpster Posted December 15, 2006 Super User Posted December 15, 2006 I will be driving down from Tulsa on Sunday. Hey Mike, No fair, pickin on me for becoming a (yankee). Dang, man, the only thing worse than a yankee is an "OKIE" ;D ;D I look forward to meeting you at Fork and remembering the good old days. I hope someone on the board takes you up on your offer to hitchhike. See you there. Ronnie
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 15, 2006 Author Posted December 15, 2006 rednecks, yankees, okies,....none of that matters at fork, all that matters is SHIMANO OR PFLUEGER? ;D
Super User Long Mike Posted December 15, 2006 Super User Posted December 15, 2006 Alpster, you're from Buras? I didn't think anyone actually LIVED in Buras. I thought that was just a place one went to catch a boat or a helicopter to go offshore. ;D That's what I used to do. I've also traveled from other Louisiana garden spots such as Grand Isle, Morgan City, Intracoastal City and Cameron. I know what you mean about the carnage of the oil economy in the 80's. That's how I ended up in Tulsa. Ronnie, I will be proud to eat your Gumbo. Mike
Super User Alpster Posted December 15, 2006 Super User Posted December 15, 2006 rednecks, yankees, okies,....none of that matters at fork, all that matters is SHIMANO OR PFLUEGER? ;D OK, we don't want this to become politically charged. I suggest to be politically correct, that we refer to them as a non-shimano fishing apparatus. Mike, At Fork we can tell a few stories about the closet thing to the great depression our geneartion has seen. Also a few stories about redfish and speckled trout fishing. Ronnie
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 16, 2006 Author Posted December 16, 2006 so non fishing shimanos or video ridden pfluegers. got it Actually, this trip may be the last time I can use my smart alleck commenrt to defend anythig I use or believe in by saying "what the videos". As of April 1, everybodys souls with be captured in my magic picture box!
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 16, 2006 Author Posted December 16, 2006 I have a question for the local Texans. I don't know how active your local dnr is in the fork area but I'd love a contact to ask if they would mind sending a representative to join us for dinner 1 night or two. Like having a historial, non biased marine biologist whos brain we could pick We could get his dept a plug and he could show his boss, volunteer community time is always a priority with law enforcment. sIn one state, the state troopers run the whole show. Sponsor the entire event all in one shoyt. Anyone interested in hosting a cast event, pasy attention. 1st stop, state police hdqrts. Preset video appeal and talk them into owning the whole event. Banner will need to be requested, etc. If you do the fire/police dept, also try and get a truck there to represent, kids love checking them out. Also the canteen units for these groups can handle feeding quite a ffew and donate their time and gear, JUST ASK! I was just wondering if anyone would know if this is somthing they would do if they have the time or if they would need to be paid like speial duty officers. When I write the request if I decide to, I will se very friendly , respectful words, pump up the officers ego to think he's be the local star for the night. His chance at being a celebrity, lol. I just think that this group, a group of onlin question askers, would be able to find at least 1 good bit of knowledge for the group. We can also let him know that his assistance will not go unpaid but out monetary barter tool is exposure and good PR for the state agency all in his name. I think a young buck officer would maybe jump at this opportunity to peove himself and get his dept national exposure. Any boss would appreciate that and it would be an exclusive. Just a thouht, think I should try? Wow, I floated in and out of like 6 topics, all but the original, lol 3 beers,...I'm old, and developing lightweightenism. Sure I'm a cheap date but I don't forget the 1/2 of the date that the drinker does. Sharp as a shark as my dad would say. If 40 of the fish are stunned, there are still 40 that you can get with the net. just don;t try to hard. (I think we all learned that from Pink Floyds romance, lol)
Super User Alpster Posted December 16, 2006 Super User Posted December 16, 2006 3 beers,...I'm old, and developing lightweightenism. Note to self: ...keep an eye on Russ when he gets to beer #3. ;D Ronnie

Guest the_muddy_man Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Tell the truth Russ Did you take advantage of yourself last night
Super User Long Mike Posted December 17, 2006 Super User Posted December 17, 2006 Alpster, Are you going to be cooking chicken and sausage gumbo? If so, I have a source deep in the heart of Cajun country that makes some of the best smoked sausage I have ever put in my face. It's from a little meat market called Rabideaux's, located in a little town called Iowa, My wife has family who live near Lafayette, so she travels there on a fairly frequent basis. If you are interested, just tell me how many pounds you want. BTW, the sausage is smoked, but it doesn't have a strong smoke flavor. Mike

I usually get sausage & andouille from a guy named David Broussard in Laplace LA. He ships to me overnite. Sometimes he knocks off for weeks at a time to go hunting, trapping, etc. Depends on when you catch him. If for some reason I can't make connections, I will let you know. I don't want to use hot/spicey sausage. Smoked is the best IMO. I will let you know if I run into any difficulty. Thanks for the offer, I may yet take you up on it. Ronnie
Guest JoshKeller Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 If I can get the time off work, I can drive up for a day or two of fishing. I will have a back seat open if anyone wants to join.
