Ok guys, this has gone waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay  too far

Am I actually reading about a fishing trip where the MEN  are making numerous posts about what to wear?

Lane,  I would like to try some shiner fishing, so if possible to fit an extra dozen or two I will buy them from you.

Is anyone planning on doing any crappie fishing?   A mess of crappie fillets would make a mighty fine camp style breakfast.  I might give it a try.  What's the scoop on Lake fork crappie anyway?

Lake Fork has some big crappie to be had.      Minnows are easily found on numerous marinas and bait shops.

I nailed one out in front of your lodge that was close 4lbs with a spinner bait.    I did tear up quite a few off of your covered boat dock also.

Avid, I will make sure that we can get Shiners. I am bringing the crawfish from here, since

I want nice BIG crawfish. There are alot of people that Crappie fish at nite with lights on Fork.

Fork produces some SLAB Crappies. How many people are interested in nite Crappie fishing?

If so, then I will make my special formula that brings in bait fish. I have had good luck Crappie

fishing at nite off of docks on just about any lake here in Texas that has plenty of Crappie.

Live minnows work the best at nite.

Lane,

I for one want a couple of dozen BIG crawdads and BIG shiners. I plan to fish both artificials and live bait. If I can buy them through you, that would be great.

For those that are not familar with Fork and the Marina most are staying at.

Its located about 1/2 ways back in Williams creek next to the hwy 17 bridge.

This bridge narrows, so the fish who are preparing to stage for spawn will be located on the edges of the timber on the sides of the creek and funneled under the narrow bridge.    Crappie will be on the brush that has been planted by other fishermen also.

You can motor over at night with out running into any timber and tie up on the edge about 200 yds away from your Lodge.    No real dangers to worry about as long as you observe your surroundings in the daytime.

Last year, the crappie were staging on the brush piles under the boat house, and out in the channels.

Some big bass was also caught off the dock by other guests.    8 and 9 while blind casting to open waters.

This goes for me as well. Just let me know what I need to do. THANKS!

Ditto.

I need a lesson with the crawdads, RW?  I've only tried them 6 or 7 times when we move the boat in the morning and they had been camping out under it, easy to grab.  They bury directly in the drilla on my lake so I tried them with a float also and just killed it.  LESSON PLEASE!

Ronnie/Roadwarrior,

We have a few distributors in the Fork area, so all I have to do is make sure that they get us nice big shiners beforehand. Don't worry, we will definately be covered on the live bait. I plan

to use both artificials and live bait for bass. I usually use live minnows on crappie at nite. When

I lived on one of the big lakes here in Texas, I used to Crappie fish just about every nite. Needless

to say, my kids ate Crappie several times a week. Like Matt said, it is not uncommon to catch some

NICE bass while Crappie fishing at nite.

Thought these might help.  2 sizes for each pic for clarity and widened view.

If anyone wants close ups of any other areas (Birch, the Caney's,etc) let me know and I'll click away.  Map is huge so I can get even closer than above if you'd like.

Here is how I usually rig a crawfish. I hook the crawfish through the bony horn on top

of the head. Bass feed head first, and that includes crawfish. Depending on the situation,

I will use split-shots, under a bobber.  You can also use a Carolina rig, or drop-shot rig.

I would not recommend free lining the crawfish on Fork. Roadwarrior may have other

tips as well.

I've tried thru the tail, the horn , free-line and on a float but never w/ a split shot.  I always figured it was a slap on the hand from the gods for trying to cheat with live bait, lol.

Maybe my first craw bass will come from Lake Fork, that would be special.

Everything I know is from Fish Chris www.trophybassonly.com. I was thinking about fishing them freestyle around any rocky structure we migh run across or target. They cannot be fished this way around wood (immediate hang-up).

I think a little night fishing sounds like fun.  I would never pilot the boat, but off the dock could be fun.  The live dads definitly sounds like a great fun.  Oppossed to the others though, I would prefer smaller crawdads.  I really want to catch my 8 lber on an artificial, but for hot action on "keepers" I'll take the little ones off your hands.

I'll go with you one night Avid.  There is a boat lane right in front of our place and the Stump field on the other side of it is fishable.  Most stuff is at night,.....w/ the trolling motor, lol.

I wouldn't go very far, just out in front of our place but sure, I'm up for that.

Also Matt proved that you can catch a bunch using the aid of the lights on the boat house.

Hey muddy, I'm guessing it would take a big, hungry gator to eat a tough old bird like avid ;) ;D

I agree K_mac, chances are Avid would bash the gator with his rod, and then take a chunk out of it's face. ;D

I don't know if I could fish around gators, not something that could and would eat you at the first chance. No thank you.
