Hey Ronnie!

If you guys want to make a slight adjustment in your schedule, ya'all can stay in Memphis Saturday night and we'll all head to Texas around 0'Dark-thirty Sunday morning. Depending on how fast you drive, it's 8- 10 hours from here.

As an added incentive, if you guys decide to stay with me that evening, I'll fire up the smoker Saturday morning and with a little luck I might serve up some baby back ribs, baked beans, slaw and Texas Toast. Could involve a beer or two, sometimes turns into a whiskey event. Pre-party anyone?

I've got plenty of room and already cleared it with the boss. Let me know.

Open invite??

If I take the long way, I could swing through Memphis on my way up from central Texas....

It only changes from a 3 hour drive to a 20 hour drive if I make the "pre-party"  ...lol     :D

Avid, I assume that you are actually going to by-pass N'Awlins and stay on I10 through Baton Rouge to Lafayette and then pick up I49 to Shreveport.  As a word of caution,  there is a stretch of I49 between Alexandria and Shreveport  where a radar detector will do you no good.  The Highway Patrol in that area has a nasty habit of driving un-marked cars.  They come screaming up the highway at 100 mph, pull in behind you, and then hit you with short burst of pulsed radar.   If you're not speeding, the cops just floor it on go on to the next one.  If you ARE speeding ... well, it cost me $87.

Muddy, since I will be driving down with the Italian bread, plus other breads and butter, do you want me to bring the garlic as well?  I can buy minced garlic, in its oil, in 48 oz jars.

Kent,

Sounds great to me. Let me clear it with the mooks, and we will make it a plan. All we need is a low amp 110 volt plug and the bassbuss is a hotel on wheels. It will also save us the cost of a campsite in Little Rock. I hope it works out and I appreciate your hospitality. I am pretty sure the "3 mooks in a buss" can deal with some BB ribs. 8-) It just keeps gettin better & better.

Hey Kent,

Just heard from Muddy. Notify the local authorities and warn the neighbors, they aren't nearly as bad as they look. ;) The mooks will be showing up at your place on Saturday evening. Express our appreciation to "the boss". Muddy will have to cast one of my Shimanos before the week is out. We will see what we will see. LOL

Hi fellers!  I'm a first time poster on the board and noticed your trip thread.  I'm real proud that so many fishermen would travel so far to visit our local lakes.  I've been fishing Fork regularly since around '88 or so and love the place.  I wish everyone the best of luck.  It's been a colder than usual winter so I wouldn't expect the fish to be bedded up yet unless the sun comes out tomorrow and stays out until you get here.  Water temps are around 48 right now.  Should be a real nice prespawn bite in fairly shallow water though.  If you are bringing your boat please remember to take your tackle inside for the night.  We have a rash of thefts every year around this time.   I've got a Media tourny there on the 11th and a small club tourny on the 18th.  With the prefishing I'll be doing I could probably post up some reports just before your trip.   big

Thanks for the invite.  I'll likely be around to meet your group in person.  Fishermans Cove is where I caught my personal best, just an 8 1/2 which isn't that great by Fork standards.  The small bridge at the Cove has the remains of the old bridge submerged just about 15' to the west.  If you go under the bridge with the graph on you'll see what I mean.   I had just caught a 7 then on the next cast caught the other.  This was in Feb a few years ago.  The next year we went to try it again as it semed to be a staging area for the fish moving into the shallows.  A boat was already on the spot when we got there and we got to watch him pull out a nine!  He was alone so we took the picture for him before he released her.    Anyway, good choice for lodging.  Don't lock the rod boxes.  Empty them.  big

This is just a friendly reminder for those traveling in from other parts of the country...

It is spring time in Texas, and allergy season is already here.  If you have seasonal allergies, please get your prescriptions or over the counter meds before leaving... or it could be a miserable trip.  East Tx is HORRIBLE for spring time allergies.  (and crazy weather extremes.)  Claritin is over the counter and the generic version is dirt cheap.  I'm typing this with itchy watery eyes and I took Claritin today!  ...lol

My mom would sneak in some sun dried tomatoe.

thats old school Italian.  I had them once at a frieds house (last name Pezzelli) in high school.  At first I was wierded out, after eating my first whole one, I was counting how many were left and diving by how many people were eating.

:)

Havn't had them since, can't wait!
