Guest avid Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 I'm in I spoke with the Mrs. and even though we are stretched a little thin this year, we are very good at recognizing when something is really important to the other and we find the resources to do it. Making this trip and meeting y'all means alot to me. So it easily qualified. LBH has kindly offered to help me find room accomodations. Muddyman.......well what can I say? I'm still not sure about driving or flying. Is their someone who needs a boating partner on a 50/50 shared expense arrangement? I so excited I could
Super User Gatorbassman Posted October 15, 2006 Super User Posted October 15, 2006 Avid, That's great to hear. It's going to be like a family reunion, without the "re" part.
Guest avid Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Man, my head is spinning Things are happening soooooooo fast. KU_Bassmaster and Senile 1 have invited me to share their room at the Fishermans Cove Marina. I replied to them each via PM that I humbly appreciate and accept their offer. Assuming their dates of stay are for check in on March 18th, and check out on March 23rd, then I am fully covered in terms of lodging. I heard from BASSmaster saying he was looking for a boat partner. I made reservations at Ricks Rentals 1-888-425-0979 for the 19th thru the 22nd. Rick said he will try to have the boat ready and in the water on the evening of the 18th. Very nice guy, especially when I mentioned Russ and BassResource.com. It was like a magic key. The total for the four days is 372.77. This includes all taxes and 18 gallons of gas. So, God willing and the crick don't rise. I'll be at the fork a fishin' and a scratchin' with all my new best buddies. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW. And as muddyman would say
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 15, 2006 Super User Posted October 15, 2006 Too cool! I look forward to meeting you in person.

BASS fisherman Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Boy oh boy oh boy! I just cant wait any more. Is it time to go yet? How about now? Thanks to Alpster and the Alpster mobile, I have a ride to Texas, and a place to stay. And thanks to Avid for going 50/50 on a bass boat for when we get their. Everything is primed and ready to go, so is it time yet? Can't wait to meet all the folks I talk with on this excellent forum. It is going to be one heck of a time! And some good food taboot. Leave the possum at home who ever said they are bringing that, uugghhh! nasty!lol-j/k but I aint eatin any.
Keithscatch Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 It is looking more and more unlikely that I will be able to go. Finances have been kinda low for me this year. If something changes from now till then I will certainly jump on here and say so. However, if I can't go or do go, I am all to happy to mark up anyone's map for spots that are golden in March. I know the lake is low right now so that sort of changes things a little. Perhaps Texas will get some good rain between now and then and fill the lake up a little. I would be nervous running the lake if it is 4-5 feet low. Stumps that were never an issue now are. So you guys that are not from that lake or area need to pay extra special attention. Every year I saw upside down boats or sunken boats during the spawn. All of them out of towners. It is an awesome lake that can be a blast or a lake that can turn into your worst nightmare. Be careful. So if I can't attend in person perhaps I can help some of you guys locate some fish out there. Bassfisherman, Yes you will need to buy the freshwater stamp. That was basically an increase in the license fee that Texas did a few years ago. Even residents have to buy those. Depending on how many days you will fish you might want an annual license. When I was there however, the way they handled their annual licenses was every license expired August 31st regardless of when you bought it. Buy it August 30th it expired the 31st. I am not sure if they changed that now. I think they did. If so, you might want to buy the annual non resident license. That way if BR holds this event 1 week earlier next year you wouldn't need to buy another license if you went then too. Just a thought.
BASS fisherman Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 So apparently I am a little slow. Here is what I see: 250 Non-Resident Freshwater Fishing Pkg NON-RESIDENT $ 55.00 253 Non-Resident Freshwater Fishing Day Plus Pkg NON-RESIDENT $17 first day/ $8 add'l days What does the Pkg stand for? Package? What is that? So If I get the non-resident freshwater fishing pkg, I'll still have to pay another 5 for a freshwater stamp for a total of $60.00. Or I can get a 5 day non-resident freshwater fishing day plus pkg for $17.00 first day, plus $8+$8+$8+$8 for a total of $49.00 with an additional $5.00 for the freshwater stamp, for a grand total of $54.00. I think I'd rather spend the full $60.00 and hope for the best next year, or maybe we could all spend that extra $6.00 and plan next years trip for 1 week earlier, as suggested by Keith. Then we could save some molla next year. What do you guys think?
Guest avid Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Avid update: Due to some unforseen changes (crapola happens) I will be sharing a room with NBoucher at the fishermans cove marina. Thanks again to KU_Bassmaster and Senile1. It's all good. Looking forward to seeing everyone. avid
Guest the_muddy_man Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 WATCH OUT AVID HE'S A RED SOX FAN :
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted October 16, 2006 Super User Posted October 16, 2006 No problem Avid. We are not out yet. We have the room still, but it looks like we both won't know for a while. Keep your fingers crossed.
Siebert Outdoors Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Say high to Ali for me guys. AKA Ali-gator, I named him about 6 years ago. He is probably 1-2 feet longer now.
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 16, 2006 Author Posted October 16, 2006 Someone fill me in on the KU/senile situation please. PM is fine.
Lane Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I have been out of state, but Glenn informed me about the BR Lake Fork trip. Both myself and my husband will be there. We should have our new 24ft center console Skeeter by then. Our boat should accomodate a couple of anglers besides ourselves. As far as live bait goes, I will be bringing BIG crawdads. So if any of you are interested in fishing with crawfish, please let me know so I can bring plenty. We will be staying at Captains Paradise, which is a new lodge with 21 private rooms, swimming pools, etc. It is a new lodge, and one of our associates is part owner. We will be hunting for the 13lb plus Sharelunker. It will be great to meet the BR staff and other members. We met Glenn, and he is a COOL dude! If anyone needs help, feel free to send me a PM!
Super User K_Mac Posted October 17, 2006 Super User Posted October 17, 2006 Lane One thing about big crawdads, if they don't work for bait, you can boil them with a few new potatoes. A lttle tabasco and your all set. Good luck to all of you.
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 17, 2006 Super User Posted October 17, 2006 Well, just speaking for myself...I'll take a few dozen crawdads and and a few dozen shiners. I have never actually fished for largemouth with live bait, but smallmouth like ithem a lot! If we cant't figure it out with artificials... Man...I'm all over it!
Guest avid Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Ya gotta love it. I'm assuming that they're will be alot of folks fishing on different boats and with different people on a regular basis. Can't think of a better way for us each to get know one another. Happy days are here again .La La De da da da
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 17, 2006 Author Posted October 17, 2006 If you guys are really serious, I'll have the boys keep all the undersize lobsters for a week or so before we go and ship them ahead. You've NEVER seen a striper take somthing so fast as when you're using illegal bottom spiders! We've had plenty of Stripers under 15 lbs suck 'em up so........A 15 lb Largie might think it found the mother load crayfish! I'm joking. I mean, I'm not, but I am. Lane, great to have you folks on board!! Is that new place the one they were building last March out on the point near Williams Creek?
Lane Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 I can probably arrange to get some shiners from a distributor. My crawdad man will deliver the craws to me before we leave for Fork. I plan to use both live craws and Matts lures. There is a GOOD chance that someone in the group will catch a Sharelunker (13lbs). We will have our holding tank equipped with pure O2, etc, ready just in case someone in the group catches the BIG girl(s) and wants to donate her to the Sharelunker program. You will get a FREE replica mount, awards, goodies, etc. It should be a blast! Fluke, we had a great time as well. I got an autograph from Zell Roland for you! I will give it to you at Fork! He is a SUPER guy!
Lane Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 LBH, I believe that may be the place. The website is: http://www.captainsparadise.com David Short is my contact. He has been bugging us to get out there, so that is where we plan to stay. There is plenty of time to plan the evening social events, but I am sure that we can have an evening get together with barbeque, etc at the lodge for everyone. My better half is a master of the barbeque pit!
RiskKid. Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 YEEE HAWWW!!!!! This is getting better and better....sounds like the food alone will be worth the trip! Folks here are A-1, if anyone needs help with a group meal (or anything else for that matter) sign me up......after all I hail from the Volunteer state and will be happy to pitch in.
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 17, 2006 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 17, 2006 Lane, Count my wife and I in for a day or half day with you and yours. Live bait or artificials, either way is fine. Just name the time and place and we'll be there!
BASS fisherman Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 I have a general question for the Texans, or others familiar within the area of Lake Fork. What are some of the things that "out of towners" should lookout for when roaming around the lake, or town?
