Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 OK, taking suggestions for the 2nd annual trip. I have a strong feeling that Lake Fork will be the scene of our antics again. It's just a great place to visit. There is food nearby, a few bars, and hotels where your boat is right outside your door. This trip will be held the 3rd week in March. I plan to fly out the 18th and fly back on the 23rd. Last year the weather didn't cooperate and although HH stole the day wityh an 8 lbr, we all still have somthing to prove to that lake. IT OWES US!! lol. Fork is a good choice also because many members can travel to Fork from where they live. Still willing to take other suggestions however. So far, I have interest from Myself Dirk_Jig-Lure Glenn + Keri Hawg_Hunter Let's get this list going folks! 21 people last year, we can do better than that this yr I'm sure!!
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 11, 2006 Author Posted October 11, 2006 Also, I put the offer out to Art Pasley and Jim Owens from CAST for Kids. Art attended last year and was a great help. He lives in Dallas. Jim may be flying in from washington.
NEBassMan Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Man, totally wish i could join everybody, but that time frame is too close to my wife being due with our first child. Oh well, i'll catch you guys on the next time around Jason
Keithscatch Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Well, let me make a vote for Florida and the Stick Marsh. Folks can stay in Orlando which has everything. Or we can make it on a lake near Orlando such as Kissimmee or Toho? Plus, that lake gets crazy crowded in March. So if you are going to Fork you had better book reservations ASAP.
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 11, 2006 Author Posted October 11, 2006 Keith, this is the same week we went last year. Place was empty. Was Awesome other than the drastic cold front and 3 inches of rain 2 days before we arrived . As far as crowds, 27,000 acres,.....show up on a sunday when the weekend anglers are leaving and the place is all yours for the week. We honestly were fishing coves that we had all to ourselves. Like I said, aside from that major cold front that sat on us till the last day, the place was awesome. Cheap too. I did the whole trip for less than 1k, flying from New England and this time it will be even cheaper after all the things we learned the 1st time. I think you and Mr. Welcome should team up and drag a boat west!!!
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 11, 2006 Super User Posted October 11, 2006 Call out the Texas Rangers! Forget about the Mexican border, you'e being invaded from the North and East! Circle the wagons and get the women and children off the streets! Tell the big ones to line up, little ones to bunch up. Looks like we're headed to Texas! If that works out for you, I'll see ya there.
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 11, 2006 Author Posted October 11, 2006 We may have to book the entire place at Fishermans cove marina!!! Oh,..BTW- that's where we stayed last year, I HIGHLY reccommend it. Simple, clean, newly renovated rooms, lounge/sports bar-restaurant, lit-covered docks w/ elec. ($7-day). Rooms were $60 a night with 2 big beds, bath, micro, fridge, coffee pot,etc.. Eric, darrin and I all shared a room no problem. Boat rentals from "Ricky's rentals" were reasonably priced, and in good working order. They are a bit underpowered for the lake. Express 16 and 17's with 40hp engines. Here are a few pics from last years trip This is a shot of one of the rooms, not a great pic but... Couple pics of the rental boats Matt_Fly(Matt), Hawg_Hunter(Darrin) and Willy Dirk_Jig-Lure(Eric) and Art Pasley The lake
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 11, 2006 Author Posted October 11, 2006 Just talked to Rick at the rental place. For a single day, it's $97.50. Gets progressively cheaper as days go on. For a 5 day rental it's $87/day.
Keithscatch Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 1150+ miles and 17 hours of driving.....Probably not a good idea. If I went I would fly there. I have friends who I could fish with from their boats. Did you all stay at Lake Fork Marina? I think that is the best place. The owners are real nice and friendly. If you fish on a weekend it will be crowded. But during the week it is not as bad. I have fished there many a time during the spawn (March) and have had allot of boats near me. It is a fantastic lake and I sure do miss fishing it. Personally I like late February better then March. More of a pre spawn mode and the spinnerbait and red rattle trap bite is in full swing then. I guess I am partial to February as I have had my best day ever fishing at Fork in February. In fact, I have caught most of my big fish in Fork in February. BTW, my Avatar picture is a sunrise from Lake Fork Here are some more shots of the lake and me: Oh look late February Caught this 6lber on a jig the same day I caught the 7lber above on a spinnerbait
BASS fisherman Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 I'd love to be there, but whether I can or not depends on several things. Money, expenses, and money. Any other Pa guys feel like driving down to Texas? And shareing a room? I might consider driving if you want to be crammed into a cavalier for 3 days, as long as you throw in some gas money. Hey LBH, you titled the thread "2nd annual BassResource.com roadtrip!!!", flying doesn't count as a roadtrip. We should all meet up somewhere and drive down together. Like a big happy family. Now Im hungry for chinese food for some reason. ;D
Vyron Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 I wish I had the money 2 join u guys . I ll do my best 2 save money for a future trip.
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 11, 2006 Super User Posted October 11, 2006 No problem girls, I have the accommodations covered, three days and four nights. I put the reservation under all our names, so just check in as Chevy and Marcia if I'm not there yet. No worries, those other guys won't have a clue.
BASS fisherman Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 It sure would be great to put a face with all the names on here. How does it run? Is it run like a tourney, or just a fishing trip?

So how does this work? I assume a location is chosen and then do we all make our own reservations or what? Is there a time frame in which we need to respond as to whether we will attend or not? I'd like to be there but I can't confirm yea or nay at this time.

You agreeing to pay for the accomodations.
Super User Matt Fly Posted October 11, 2006 Super User Posted October 11, 2006 There are a ton of places that won't be overbooked, thousands of camp sites with showers on premises also. Praying for good weather for all those that shows up. Hookem Matt.
Hookem Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Crap, a bunch of yankees comin' to Texas. ;D ;D ;D Seriously..... 8-) I just might have to show up and defend the state. And show y'all how to fish, Texas style.
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 11, 2006 Super User Posted October 11, 2006 I was just wondering how many Share Lunkers a live well will hold? If you can only keep three or four at a time, will the Texas DNR come out to pick them up on the boat or will we have to go back to the dock for lunch?
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 11, 2006 Author Posted October 11, 2006 we make all our own reservations. At least last year we did. I will be at Fishermans cove marina. This is where we stayed last year and were very pleased. Basschaser57 and a few others also chose to stay there. Lake fork marina is another one. Art Stayed there because they were the only ones with rooms left last minute. More expensive, less amenities. Still, another option. Lots of options in the area, but these 2 are lakeside. We booked by late Nov and many things were getting filled up. More so than the rooms will be the guides. They book up quickly.
