Guest Texas_Bass_Pro Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Well I am back home a day and a half early. I didn't get a chance to meet the BR family. I have some good news and some bad news..... 1.) Good news is that my boat still runs good and I had no problem getting to Lake Fork. Thank God!! 2.) Bad news is that my boat can not handle Lake Fork. For one, the lake is too big to cover in my boat with my small motor. I was getting smoked up by other peoples trolling motors. LOL. No, really, I was. Then to top it off, the wind started to blow way to hard and for safety reasons I came on in. So, that wasn't so bad and I could live with that. There were plenty of guys out there willing to let me fish with them. Besides, I had a pool table and a hot tub. Life couldn't get any better........and trust me it didn't. I got a call from my daughters day school saying she is being taken to the hospital and I needed to get down there. She had been hit in the head with a rock by another kid. So I rush back to Longview only to find out.......... 1.) Good news---My daughter is okay and in perfect health. 2.) Bad news is that the teacher notified the wrong parents. It wasn't our child being taken to the E.R. It was some other parents child. By the way, that child turned out to be fine. Just a little cut on her head. So all in all my vacation was and I didn't get to fish that much. I have some pictures that I will share as soon as I can download them. Quote
MattStrykul Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Man, I know how you feel about the boat and all. I have a 12 foot plastic jon boat and that sucker gets blown around in even the slightest winds! That is a real bummer that you had to go home early, and it wasnt even your daughter. Goodluck next time Matt Quote
Bassassasin12 Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 man thats a bummer. Did you manage to land any fish at least? Quote
Guest Texas_Bass_Pro Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 man thats a bummer. Did you manage to land any fish at least? Not even one.....but on a high note, I only live 45-50 miles from Lake Fork. So I will get another chance at her. Quote
clipper Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Sounds like my deer season last fall. Keep trying and glad the daughter wasn't hurt. That is a bad feeling to be away from home thinking one of your children is in the emergency room. Quote

I think you need a bigger boat. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted March 20, 2007 Super User Posted March 20, 2007 I'm glad bout your daughter! Cool pics! Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted March 20, 2007 Super User Posted March 20, 2007 Wow. Great looking lake. I'll bet it's a handful when the wind starts blowing though. Quote
Troutfisher Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Good pics, hopefully you will do better next time. Quote
IneedAnewScreenName9886691 Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Hey bass pro, man that lake looks tasty (are you sure you were on Fork, I barely see one boat in any of those pics ;D) and the diggs look even better!! Sorry about the mis hap with your daughter! the good news is that it was a false alarm, the bad news is it pulled you off the lake and probably drove like a bat out of hell on the way home! But like you said the good news is you live only 45 minutes from FORK!!! Dude that is awesome! Head back down there and jump in with some other guys! I have a feeling you will be getting to know Fork a little better over the next 12 months! Great to hear everything turned out ok (except you being home early). Hydrilla Cart, that was pretty good!!!! Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted March 21, 2007 Super User Posted March 21, 2007 Better luck next time. Quote
SnakeEyes Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 with that size boat you should have gone and launched at Mustang creek and stayed in the cove... here are some slot fish that we took out of mustang last month.... courtesy of Ray Hubbard Bass Club Quote
cpvenom Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 So let me get this straight. There was no reason for you to come back home all worried because it wasn't even your daughter? Thats insane! Im sorry you had to worry like that about nothing. That teacher needs to get the right parents next time. No sense in upseting more than one set of parents. Quote

Yea, I know what you mean. There are a ton of things I should have done differently. But when you get a call like I did from my daughters dayschool, then you have no choice but to leave. I would have stayed longer but couldn't due to a false Emergency. Quote

Trust me, she felt bad enough and there was no reason for me to put more stress on the situation. I'm just glad my child and the other child are okay. That is what really matters. Fork will be there for days to come. I just hate not being able to meet some of the members. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 You live only 45 minutes away from Lake Fork (and you stayed in a lodge)? I would be there everyday if I were you. I take day trips to Lake Erie, which is 2 1/2 hours away. 45 minutes is my commute to work. Glad to hear you daughter is ok (so if they called the wrong parents for the girl that was hurt, does that mean your daughter was the rock thrower?...Just joking of course) Quote

I had to go back to work the next day anyway. I may try to go back up there this weekend or next weekend. I live in an apartment so I have to store my boat over at my parents house which is another hour away. I just don't have the money for a boat storage right now, but hopefully in the future. Quote

Guest Texas_Bass_Pro Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Hoping to get a better boat within the next couple of months. Something that can handle Fork. Quote
Super User flechero Posted March 25, 2007 Super User Posted March 25, 2007 Your boat is fine for Fork or almost any other place... my old boat was a little 15' modified V aluminum with a 9 hp and a trolling motor. You just have to plan to trailer to places of less wind. (and be quick with a tie rope or anchor) We trailered monday and tuesday due to the winds... even in a 19' glass boat, I had no desire to run across the lake in 30+ MPH winds. I just don't want you to think you are handicapped with that boat- there are lots of places you can go in it that I can't. You stayed less than 5 minutes drive from where we all were... why didn't you come down at least once for dinner and to meet people? Quote

I did fine in the boat on Sunday afternoon but got really tired and just relaxed for the rest of the day. On Monday I tried to fish but the waves were too much for me. I almost flipped over twice. By the time I got the boat docked I went inside to grab a sandwich and that is when I got the call from my daughters daycare, which was in my first original post. I had to go back to work on Tuesday as well as the rest of the week. I didn't have a whole week vacation. Quote
