ncxj Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Went to the farm pond down the road and had a pretty good day. I caught this 6.4lber on a 6" YUM dinger forget the color, pumpkinseed i think. Really surprised me how heavy it was 'cause it deffinetly dont look that big. Anyways caught a few more all 3lbs and up, overall a great day. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted March 17, 2007 Super User Posted March 17, 2007 Nice fish but 6.4lbs. ??? Check your scales. Quote
ncxj Posted March 18, 2007 Author Posted March 18, 2007 Thats what I said, but I checked it on another scale at the house later. It was a fairly long fish dont remember exactly but around 20-22" I recon, but it was fairly skinny. Maybe the earth has more gravitational pull in this part of the county! haha Quote
senko_77 Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 That fish could have very well gone 6lbs. Pictures can be so decieving. It looks like it has a fat little gut. Take a look at the pictures in other peoples posts. Sometimes, holding a fish at certain angles can truly show it's size. The way you have it doesn't display it's length, girth, head size, etc. My favorite ways to hold fish are.. Holding the fish in the front and way back on the tail will show the fish's gut. It lets gravity kick in and really make it look weighed down When I catch a fish I try and look at the side of the fish that looks the best. Holding them like this shows a full jaw bone, the fish's length, and will show the thickness of the fish. The fish I'm holding in this pic weighed 6lbs 15oz. I'm holding it in a downward angle to the camera sorta like you are holding yours. This fish does not look 6lbs, but it was weighed on an accurate scale. You can see how the picture can really make the fish seem alot smaller. Great fish, and I hope this post helped you out in taking pictures that show the true size of the fish. Quote
Gotta Love It Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 If both scales said 6.4... then it must have been 6.4. I would believe you if you said that... The people I don't believe are the one's who say it was 10-12lbs and never weighed it on a scale (or measured it to apply the weight formula). Senko77 is right, you can hold the fish several ways and the pics can still be deceiving. Great fish and keep the pics coming!!! Quote
ncxj Posted March 19, 2007 Author Posted March 19, 2007 Thanks for all the compliments, and senko77 I think you might be right the camera angle does make a difference plus im a little over 6'2 so that might kinda put things in perspective. Eithere way it will taste great when battered and fried . Went back to the pond I caught that one in today and got some pretty nice bluegill. Quote
