What is going on?

   Well, here's the all time greatest question of bass fishing:  Why aren't they biting.

But seriously, me and a buddy of mine can pull a few keepers out on everytrip of the year.  I caught my PB  (9.4) on this past Christmas Eve, while there was snow on the ground.  But now that the waters finally starting to warm up, we've gotten skunked the past 2 weeks or so.  I've tried my usual setups: jigs, worms, cranks, topwater... it's just not cutting it.

So here's the question, are the bass suspending? If not, what!  What would you recommend?

Time to become the milkman, a stop and delivery in every home. Any fishy looking spot is worth a couple of casts.

Here 's my fishing partner for the previous weekend:

See the point in the back and to the right of the picture ? between that point and the place where that three pounder was caught there 's a distance of about 50 yards, we caught numerous fish ( 20 for me, 10 for him ) but we "milked" the place, it took us two and a half hours to cover those 50 yards. The run n 'gun couple that worked the place previous to us went empty handed.

I'm fishing a pond, we do use a boat, but usually stay in a spot for a fairly long time.

I've never had as much success as I did this winter, maybe the fishing gods are catching up to me?

I'm fishing as slow as ever, so that's not it.  I'm wondering the location of the bass.  We found them in about 20 foot of water, and we had great success slow crawling jigs and droppshotting them.

I guess I just gotta get back into the warm water spirit.  But if this don't change,  I might be saying I CANT WAIT FOR WINTER!!  and that just wouldn't be right.

I 'm pretty shure that it 's not what you are fishing with but the way you are PRESENTING it, that weekend I also crawled jigs ---> no takers, dropshotted them ---> no takers, split shot rigged several types of soft plastics ---> no takers.

Since they weren 't taking the baits the usual manner it was time to open my bag of dirty tricks. Nail weights and t-rigging soft plastics like Beavers, Trickworms, weightless T-tigged tubes and off center wacky rigging Salty Centipedes was the ticket for success while everybody else complained about getting skunked.

Well, I'll see what i can pull out of my bag, thanks for the tip. Hopfully i'll make the best of it.

You can also rig "wrong" ( inserting the hook on the tail side, yup, the narrow pointed end   ) some senkos Hookem, that also makes the bait move in a different way, and it also works.

Raul, where do you insert the nail weight in to the beaver because i'm having the exact same problem like hookemdown? I was catching alot more fish in the cold! Water temp is about 48 (surface) now.

My lake slowed down too when it first started warming up. I think the bass had a hard time adjusting to the quickly changing water temp. Give them some time, they'll turn on soon

48 degree water is still pretty cold, last week when the bass really started going crazy the temp had risen to 55-56 degrees on the warm side of the lake.

Well, I went out today..... Tried to target suspending bass, instead we caught 3 crappie.  Oh well, a fish is a fish.
