Guest avid Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 My son is down from NY for a few days. It's great. We went fishing today. Bluebird skies following a cold front, so I'm not too confident of the outcome, but all things considered it was great day. Spending time fishing with your son is one of the great pleasures in life. Here he is with the first bass of the day Here is again with nice bassie caught on a ratltrap. and finally he let dad get in the act. The lure is hard to see but it's a Carolina chip custom bass devil II that my son brought down for me as a surprise. I caught two on it and that's pretty good considereing today was fairly slow (9 in the boat) It was really great spending time with him like this again. It brought me waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back to when I first taught him to fish for bluegills with a bobber and nightcrawlers. Life can be sooooooooooo good. Today was one of those days. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 22, 2007 Super User Posted February 22, 2007 That's what fishing is all about. Memories. Really good memories. So glad you son made it down your way and you had a good time. More lifetime memories for you both. Quote

clipper Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 It's great when you get to fish with your son! My son lives in town and I expect to fish with him some during his spring break from college. He works and goes to college too, so his fishing time is limited. I still remember meeting my dad at Seminole on spring break, camping on Rattlesnake point, and fishing Spring Creek. It's also nice when you can catch a few fish . Quote

Guest avid Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Nice job avid! I wish i could get my son into fishing! Actually he's not. He has been an athlete his whole life, but it's all team sports. Soccer and Lacrosse put him through college. He's now a teacher and a coach. I remember taking him fishing with the worms and bobbers, but he was always to fidgety to stay out very long. He's been fishing a little over the years, but usually on party boats with his friends. It was fun this time because it was like teaching him all over again. He was excited with the ratLtrap fish because it was his first on a lure. For some reason he wouldn't consider the Senko an articficial. To him it was to much like live bait. But the ratltrap was a bone fide lure. Anyway, we had a really great time. He was surprised at how much fun it was, so I may be finally developing him into a "fer real" basser. We'll see. Quote
Triton21 Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Always wonderful to fish with our sons. Mine lives too far away to do it much but we do it at least a couple times a year and with my Grandson also. Nace looking young man Avid. I can see he takes after his mother. ;D ;D ;D Kelley Quote

Guest avid Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 My is 31 years old so it's pretty much a done deal. But I did learn one important lesson when I taught my DAUGHTER to fish. when you take a kid to teach him to fish. It's ALL about the kid. Unfortunately for my son, I was taking him fishing with me and didn't spend enough time having it be all about him. By the time my daughter came around I had learned. She now lives in Tampa, owns a boat and she her husband fish for all the inshore species. I applied the "lessons" with my son this week and he had a great time and caught most of the fish. we live we learn and then we get to do it all over again. Life is beautiful. Quote
island bassin Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Good job Avid , hope my son would like fishing as well. Presently he is 3 years old!! Quote
Blue Eyed Fisher Chick Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I am glad that you got to spend quality time with you son catching fish! I look forward to doing that with my daughter. She's only 2 but when we do take her we make it a big deal that she's going fishing and she loves it! She loves anything that has to do with fishing and getting on the boat!! Nice catch too by the way!! Quote
