Guest avid Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Had a great afternoon/evening on the water today. Lake is REALLY low. Weed cover is everwhere. I started with a little LC shallow running crankbait and caught a keeper. Horny toad produced another couple. Swimming Senko scored, but all fish were a pound and half or less. Kept moving into the wind. Casting a ratltrap which picked up a dink a little bigger dink. Decided to try the johnson silver spoon because of all the talk lately, as usual got a bettr than average keeper on that. By now the shadows are getting really long and so I switch to some topwaters. nothing on a buzzbait. but here's the big surprise. I caught a 2 lb crappie on a Rio Rico. That the big version of the lobina rico popper. This big popper was the ticket for the larger bass too. I caught a couple in the 3-4 class. Now I'm getting excited. I'm thinking BIG BASS. So I go to my tried and true big bass lure which is a live Sammy 120 - Bang 5 lber. OK now I'm psyched. I put on the muskie jitterbug, the huddleston deluxe, and the titan (king Kong) Well, I would love to tell you that this story ends with a 10 lber, but alas not to be. I think the 8 " swimbaits are a bit much for my 125 acre pond. I couln't get the jitterbug to "gurgle" right so I have some swimmng pool tuning to do. But it was a great night. Beautiful, warm but breezy evening, with no bugs and the chancd at a real hog. i put in an avids famous photo of the crappie. I took a pic of the live sammy 5 lber but it was not up to my usual standards Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Sucks to be you! lol I'm just jealous Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Nice crappie Avid! If you get that Muskie jitterbug to gurgle properly, please let me know how you did it. I've never been able to get good action on those big boys. Quote
Craw Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Great job Avid. Talk about versatility! Anything you haven't caught bass with? Quote
Guest avid Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Great job Avid. Talk about versatility! Anything you haven't caught bass with? Funny you say that because one of the reasons I could never be a tournament guy is because I love to switch baits. People I fish with think I'm crazy. It's not uncommon for me to catch a nice bass on a partucular lure, and say "ok that works, let me see what else I can fool one on" And switch off to try other baits. Can you imagine what my tournament partner would do if we were fishing for money Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 24, 2007 Super User Posted January 24, 2007 If he was nice he might take you back to the ramp, otherwise...start swimming! : Quote

I'm almost as addicted to my tackle as I am to fishing. I stay up late fixing this and changing that, and looking at the newest in the BPS catalog. When I'm fishing I always want to use all my favorites every time. "All my favorites" is a lot of lures, becuase all my lures are my favorites. ;D Quote
