New 2 Bass Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Hey guys, had something happen today I thought I'd tell ya about. I got canceled at work, so I took advantage and went fishing. It was a bad day all around. Winds were harsh out of the E - SE. I only caught two dinks and 2 foot and a halfers. Now the cool part. As I am pounding the bank I see this guy in a uniform and a camera walking up to me. I figure I'm getting pulled over, but no wait. He's asking me about my fishing. It turns out he is a biologist for the FWC. We talked for about 20 mins. Very nice guy and super informative. He was interested in my PB, and told me they have electro fished 9 and 10's from this pond right here. He also wanted to know about my peacocks, since their population supposedly died off sometime after 94-95. Some sort of freeze kill. I gladly volunteered to email him my personal pics for the sake of research (bragging 100% between y'all and me). Very cool feeling to help out my pond directly. Before he left he gave up the ponds secret spots and time of year also. He is going to mail me some maps. I can only imagine, but I hope its a treasure map to a 15lb hawg hole I can get to w/ my car. Better than working, right? Quote
Guest avid Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Lucky man indeed. Nothing like a conservation officer to get the skinny. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted November 30, 2006 Super User Posted November 30, 2006 WOW!!! You got Johnny Law to give you something other than a ticket!?!?!?! Thats awesome!!!! Quote
New 2 Bass Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 Speedbead, really. He pulled a Matrix and practically walked out of the bushes. You shouldn't creep up on people like that . Avid - For sure. Anything that helps me land one. First time for everything right?!?! Quote
Troutfisher Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Key to figuring out where the good fishing is... 1) Take a conservation officer to dinner 2) Give him fine wine 3) A lot of fine wine 4) Loosen him up and find out the good fishing holes! Quote
New 2 Bass Posted December 1, 2006 Author Posted December 1, 2006 Note to self: Fill hydration pack w/ white lightning, in case I meet up w/ the biologist. Now I just gotta find a way to get one of y'all in the "know" to mail me some of the lip liquid wrench. No stills I know of down my way. Quote
Cigarlover 1 Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Awesome!! That'll make for some fun fishing. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted December 1, 2006 Super User Posted December 1, 2006 Well, I live in the mountains of South Central PA.... Troutfisher is from WV.... I am pretty sure that there are stills within a 10 mile radius of at least one of our houses ;D Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 There are lots of anglers with information that could be valuable to DNR, I'm suprised they don't pool us for more info. Way to contribute, both of you. Quote

New 2 Bass Posted December 1, 2006 Author Posted December 1, 2006 The day I was talking to the guy I was sporting the BassResource.com tshirt. I'm sure he noticed the giant LMB on the back. :-? He told me the fish in the pond were cagey. I told him I had noticed that. Guess where I learned to sneak up onto the bank. Right here folks. My buddy thinks I'm nuts casting from way back, but 5-2 is results in my book. The knowledge base here is spooky. Not to geek out on y'all, but its Borg like. later Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 what is "Borg like"? I saw on espn this saturday that some states have an agreement with B.A.S.S. to record all catches from tourny's. They said the info they were collecting (state DNR) from the anglers was quality, precious info that would normally cost the state thousands of dollars to collect otherwise thru electro-shock sampling, etc. Good stuff, we should all push our local clubs to participate in such a program. Good things start at grass roots levels. Be heard at your next meeting, YOU can make a difference! Quote
New 2 Bass Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 Borg is a sci-fi character in Star Trek. The "newer" ones. They/It are robot people who collect everything and everyone. This board is borg like because we are a collective of bass minded folk. They refer to themselves as "the collective". http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/gallery/contimission/holo-borg.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/gallery/borg1.htm&h=408&w=644&sz=73&tbnid=5ZOxBTDzwfOmlM:&tbnh=87&tbnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dthe%2Bborg&start=1&sa=X&oi=images&ct=image&cd=1 Spooky. ben23 Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 haa, or you could just go back to school and take a class that lets you find a mentor. Guess what, I have 2 mentors- AN FLW pro, and a Fisheries Biologist. Last 2 weeks I have have gone electrofishing during the school day!!!!! Quote
justfishin Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 When I was on the Federation Trail in Maryland a few years back the DNR used to give us cards to record out catches from time to time. I thought it was a great idea and a great way to smooth some of that " us and them attitude that some of the guys had ". They handed us a lot of info on shocking programs and future projects. I thought it was good stuff. Quote
