airborne_angler Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Just bought it on Ebay. Can anyone give me a positive ID? Seller says its 8 inches long. But doesnt have any other info. Could this be a HUD? Quote
dumb_dog11 Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 the shape does look like a hud but the color pattern doesnt really look authentic how much is it going for? that should tell you if its fake Quote
airborne_angler Posted September 28, 2008 Author Posted September 28, 2008 I was able to pick it up for $10.50 with shipping Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted September 28, 2008 Super User Posted September 28, 2008 That is a Chinese knockoff of a Hudd. It will sink like a rock. Not sit upright on the bottom, and roll on its side when you retrieve it. You got screwed. Quote

You got screwed. Give it a chance, every tacklemaker lets a few mistakes slip out. Maybe this is one and it will function perfectly Quote
Mattlures Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Fourbizz is correct. I dont know if it will roll, but it definatley sinks like rock and it wont sit or fall leval. If you want a Hudd, buy a Hudd. When it comes to swimbaits, knock offs are rarley worth fishing. The problem is, sombody will buy one of these cheap baits and have little to zero success. Then they will not buy the quality bait because they dont think the original bait will be any different. It is better to just buy good quality proven swimbaits in the first place. Quote
Branuss04 Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I got screwed as well, bought one, threw it once and there it sits in my tackle box. Just like jay sayed, it plain SUCKS!!!! I think every swimbaiter has got to go through the "Buying Crap" stage until they finally realize that it isn't worth the few extra bucks saving. Luckily jay talked me out of most of the crap. Luckily for me matt, it didn't stop me from buying the real thing. After buying this is when it finally hit me NOT to buy knockoffs. Quote
Mattlures Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I went through the same stages. But at the time there were very few good affordable baits. It was either all or nothing. Myself being a tight wad went the cheap route. I had very little success. However I knew all the big names were catching huge fish on swimbaits, Nobody talked back then you had to figure it out on your own. I couldnt afford the $100 baits so I made my own. Now there are a lot of good baits in the $15-$30 dollar range so its not that bad. I think Hudds are great baits and I would rather have one Hudd then 10 of those knock offs. Maybe if the lake has a bunch of pike or musky you could throw that bait and not worry about a good bait getting torn up? Or maybe throw it in the worst nastiest cover that you dont have the guts to throw a good bait into? Maybe saltwater fish will eat that thing? Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 29, 2008 Super User Posted September 29, 2008 Better spend well once and for all than spending several times over: It looks like a Hud :-? Oh boy ! it 's priced one third of a Hud I 'm gonna get it ! Yeah, but it ain 't a Hud and if you expect it to perform like a Hud you should have purchased a Hud in the first place. Bad investment. Now there are a lot of good baits in the $15-$30 dollar range Yeah, somehow Mattlures pop into my mind right away into that price range. Quote
Mattlures Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Raul you are correct but I wasnt even refferring to my baits. There are a lot of good baits in that price range. Just about all good soft swimbaits fall into that range. I actualy thought the 8in Hudd did too but Its $5 more. It can get confussing as there are a ton to choose from now. Price doest gaurantee a good bait. Look at the luckycraft swimbaits. They are expencive but I havent heard any good about them. The fist one wasnt thta bad but the others.... You can find deals on most of the brands you just have to do some searching. Quote
