Guest avid Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Did some bank fishing with the Stella RW loaned me. He sent it fully spooled with 6 # Yozuri hybrid soft. Outstanding line. I was casting a zoom finesse worm with a 1/64th oz. bullshot. Wow that sucker travelled. I was very impressed with the distance with such light weight. I paired it with my St. Croix Avid AS66MXF. It balanced well but I think something a tad lighter would give my finesse baits, just a litte more action. I caught 4 bass. One dink, three keepers. It was a great feeling. Bank fishing can be fun. It keeps it simple. Thanks again to RW for the loan of the reel. PS> Did I say how impressed I was with the line..........what's the name again? ;D Quote
senko_77 Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 way to go av! sounds like alot of fun and i'm sure its nice to be out there again. and i agree, bank fishing is a ton of fun! im so jelous of that stella. lol Quote
Bassassasin12 Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 a stella as a loaner. Only RW ;D Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Nice. Was the spinning vs B/c any different on your arm/shoulder? I would love to own some stellas but I think they are worth the money only if you have the longevity that IT does. I don't, lol. I'd be more likely to accidentally run it over before I ever wore it out! Quote

Captain Cali Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Great to hear! Did I read this correctly? Avid used a spinning rig!?!? Quote

Guest avid Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 5BL - you funny. ;D New2bass - Thank you Cap'n Cali - Yup, nothing like getting older and some shoulder surgery to make you change your ways. Bassassasin12 - Yep RW is definitly a class act LBH- The key with spinning rod is that I can switch from leftie to rightie without having two outfits. What I'm doing for fitness since I'm not ready for the lifting required in taking out my canoe, motor, battery etc. is walking to the ramp area of my home lake. there are several little bridges and community property that I can fish from. I did get a moderately crappy line twist, but was able to untangle the "web" in about a minute or so. I knew swimmin a fineese worm was going to twist the line up, but I decided to let it happen. Well after I untangled it I went up the slope with the wind to my back and let the line play out into the current. I was good to go untill almost dark, no incidents so now I did the smart thing and played out the twist before it jumped off the spool. Now the good news. There is NO WAY I could have gotten the distance on such a light lure (zoom finesse worm 1/64th bullshot) with my ultra light baitcaster. Now of course from a canoe distance is not so critical, but using the spinning outfit from the bank was fun. I got to take a nice brisk walk on a balmy South Florida evening and catch a few bass too. Does life get any better than that? 8-) Quote
Guest avid Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 my mistake************************ As you can plainly see I know nothing about spinning reels. RW was kind enough to lend me a Stradic, not crazy enough to lend me a stella. But he did send it in a stella box. Anyway, I love the reel and caught my first post surgery bass with it so that makes it special. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted November 30, 2006 Super User Posted November 30, 2006 I bet you had RW checking his reel collection. ;D ;D Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted November 30, 2006 Super User Posted November 30, 2006 Avid, If you are still fishing spinning tackle when we get to Lake Fork, I'll give you a Stella to play with for the whole trip. I have often said here on the Forum that the Stradic is the "best value" in the Shimano line-up, but for a LOT more money, the Stella is something else. It's a matter of diminishing returns: Four Stradic for the price of one Stella, you see what I mean? I'm glad you like the reel and I am soooooo happy to hear you are able to get back into fishing. Good luck, my friend! Quote
Lightninrod Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Excellent news Avid! So glad to hear you're still chunkin' and catchin' 8-). Dan Quote

Good luck, my friend! Wow, this just keeps getting and better. I will proudy and humbly borrow your stellar stella. Of course you realize that after fishing with the "best" nothing else will do. I think you, me, lightnin rod, Rolo and a few other characters on this forum are linear descendants of the ancient simian speicies known as baitus Monkeeus Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted December 1, 2006 Super User Posted December 1, 2006 Avid I'm glad to hear you're back in the saddle. Maybe not at a full gallup, but able to get out anyway. Good luck with your recovery. I'm pulling for to get that 8+ while you're on the Fork roadtrip,or maybe you will get it from the bank in your home lake before you go?! 8-) Good luck. Quote
Cigarlover 1 Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Great to hear you're able to get back out. I can imagine there's not much worse than being in a place where you could fish every day but not be able to go out. Here's to a full and healthy recovery. Quote

I can imagine there's not much worse than being in a place where you could fish every day but not be able to go out. Here's to a full and healthy recovery. Thank you. Yes, it is REALLY frustrating. Especially since it can get pretty hot down here much of the year. But October - April is prime time. I hate to miss a day of it, but I just have to keep pacing myself avid Quote
Keithscatch Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Glad you got some fish Don. I used to have a Shimano Stradic. Man that was a sweet reel. It got stolen right out of my garage along with all of my other equipment back in Texas. I was so bummed until guys from the TFF site donated me all new equipment to replace what I lost. All of those reels and rods I fish with where all gifts from other strangers/friends I never met. Anyway, besides that I loved the Stradic. Not that I am a big spinning reel fan but that Stradic felt real smooth and cast like a dream. Line twist was fairly minimal with it. I had the occaisonal loop knot/line twist but not as much as lessor models. One of these days I will replace that. The Stella on the other hand. $500 for a reel. Probably not going to happen. Quote

But I know me. It's one of the things that terrifies me about fishing with RW's stella at the fork. Quote
