BassKing813 Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I know what you're thinking. You people have such perverted minds, geez. : Anyway, have you ever fished a pier and hooked a HUGE fish and couldn't get it up to land it? This happened to me this past weekend. I hooked about a six pound speckled trout and didn't have a net or anything to get it on the pier. I tried reeling it up slowly but my line snapped. :'( Any ideas on what I could have done? Quote
Schaefer Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 2 words, Heavier Line ... if your catching on average 6 pound fish use 12 pound test. If u want use a lil heavier. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted November 7, 2006 Super User Posted November 7, 2006 happened to me with a carp one time. If you can't get off the pier to some ground to land it, then i would think the only option is heavier line. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 We have a dock here in the Prov River where the Getty tanker used to unload. It's a closed dock now but we have a way to get by the fence. anyway, we made a long shaft net to get them up because there is nowhere to "walk" them to for unhooking. We simply use a radiator hose clamp (2 of them) to attach net handle to an aluminum pole (18 ft) that we use for digging clams. (one section of pole used for raking clams) Worked great but now I have a boat Quote
titelinez Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 When I would go fishing off the wharf in Santa Cruz with my father as a kid we would use a crab net to land fish that were too big to just pull up. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted November 7, 2006 Super User Posted November 7, 2006 haha, LBH is a trespasser!! j/k If you are around some nasty snags, definitely use some heavier line... Quote
Fisherman Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 We've got a 5gal bucket with 1-1/4 - 1-1/2" holes drilled everywhere (like a sift) with a heavy gauge rope. Cheap but effective. Quote
