First pic post, PB!

Ok, I finally got a picture of my PB on the computer. This is THE FISH that got me hooked. Up until I caught her, I was into catching whatever I could catch...not really targeting any specific species. Needless to say, I am a bass fisherman from now on.

I caught her about two years ago near Chambersburg, PA.

I know there are some guys on here that are really good about estimating length, weight, etc...Please, if anyone has any idea how much this thing might weigh, FEEL FREE TO LET ME KNOW!!

Thats a real pretty fish.  I would say 6lbs. but pictures are real hard to judge.  What did she fall for?

No matter the weight,she's a toad!Nice fish!I would say 5 1/2 atleast.It is hard to tell by looking at a pic.If you would have held her out like Bill Dance for the pic,some guys would have guessed 8!

There is no way we can help you.  Your guestimate is as good as anyone else's.  

If you would have measured the fish at it's longest point and it' s widest point.  then we could give you a reasonably close estimate.

Let me make a suggestion that you may not like.

do not consider this your personal best.  You have no idea how big it is, so you don't know what you have to beat to best it.

Get a decent scale and a ruler.  The next bass you catch will be your PB.  Now you have a specific goal to shoot for.  On a good week you will break your PB several times.  But it will get harder and harder until..........................

Hey Speedbead, that's a very nice fish ! I think it could be even bigger than anyones guessing here, based on the fact that you have it pulled pretty close to yourself, and like me, your a big guy..... But I wouldn't even want to put a number with it.

That said, I'm almost glad Avid beat me to it this time.... As I hate to always be the one to bring up scales. They are pretty cheap, and they remove all the guesswork though.

So anyway, first get yourself a scale, then go stick one which is enough bigger than this one, that you have no doubts... Then weigh it, and there you go ! You will then have a number to beat :-)

This fish was actually caught when I knew a whole lot less than I do now. Like I said, two years ago. We now take a digital scale with us, or at a minimum, I carry a flexible tape so I can take accurate measurements of fish.

Hopefully santa will be nice this year and I can get the digital camera I want. I hope to be posting more pics in the future.

i caught my PB when I hardly knew what I was doing also. In fact, my PB was also my first largemouth.

lol the look on your face is priceless....your like WHAT THE HELL!?....I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED! lol...don't worry. My avatar picture is a 2.10 pounder that hit a buzzbait...no one was there and it was dead quiet...I was shaking so much! I can't imagine what that thing was like.

On a more serious note...I would say 6-7, 8 if your lucky. Try your best to get a scale. If you get another fish like this heres a suggestion......cut off your lure. Have your buddyhold the fish's mouth closed and tail together. Then take line from your reel start at the tip of the mouth and run it all the way down to the tail. Cut the line and put it in a safe place. Then when you get off the water measure the length of the line and enter it into the fish calculator. It will give you an average weight to length estimate. Awesome fish. It looks really long and pretty thick. If that fish had just a fwe more bluegills down his throat I could say it was 7-8. Right now judging from your size and how your holding it, I will say 5.5-6.5. Who knows?

Next time you catch a nice fish and weigh it, you can tell us what you think the one in the picture weighed.

I think you will be surprised. If you haven't caught a 5 lb bass, I can assure you it is HUGE. Most "5 lb" bass that aren't weighed are 3 lb bass.
