Super User retiredbosn Posted September 13, 2008 Super User Posted September 13, 2008 Anyone ever had success with these baits. I'm learning that they have to be fished really slow, but as with other cranks, until last night I haven't fished it enough to know how productive they are. Let me know what think. Quote
DADto4 Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 I have had some succes with them in the past. That particular lure has to be ripped down quickly then retrieved at a snails pace, it has very good action at slower speeds, and has produced for me many times.Although it is not a primary bait for me it does, like all lures have it's time in the water.I generally like to throw the shad color early spring along weed edges. Super User Grey Wolf Posted September 13, 2008 Super User Posted September 13, 2008 It will catch fish but it isn't anything special. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 I looked at this lure in my cart at Dick one day, and said to myself: "Self, there is no way that stupid looking thing will out-catch any Rapala." I ended up with my first DT rap that day, and never regretted passing up the dancin eel... Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted September 14, 2008 Super User Posted September 14, 2008 I think the dancin' eel catches a lot more fisherman than fish ;D Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted September 14, 2008 Super User Posted September 14, 2008 I dunno. But a friend tried to give me one the other day; I turned it down. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted September 14, 2008 Super User Posted September 14, 2008 Biggest waste of money I've ever spent on a bass lure. Bought one when they first hit the market many years ago, never caught one fish with it. Still have the POS if somebody wants it. Total scrub! fishinfiend has the EXACT right idea!! Quote
BassBandit35 Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Dancin Eel is a complete joke. I can't believe they came up with the design. A gimmick all the way. Last year I was watching a boat that was in team tournament and this boater was catching bass left and right on Rapala crankbait while his partner in the back was throwing Dancin Eel and didn't catch a squat. I was chuckling. Quote
Bubba_Bruiser Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Bill catches fish on them in his honey hole, why can't I?!? LOL Take a drimmel and shave the lip off, it does alright for skippin under stuff. Quote
snapper G Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 I got one a little bit back, never used it much (maybe about 5 trips) haven't caught anything on it. looks nice! Quote

I was chuckling. Opposite experiences here. After seeing Dirk get his butt handed to him in a pretty big private tourny ($200 entry) via the Eel, I bought one to bust his chops with on the next outing. As a joke, I tied on when he wasn't looking and threw it. 4 lb fish resulted. I continued to hammer the fish as Dirk struggled with a soft plastic bite. I retired it o the wall of fame immediately after, never to be thrown again. Dirk however, has a box of them now. You'll probably see them in the fall video this yr. I know,....there are no polly wogs in the fall,.....tell the bass that Quote
Simp Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 I've used them and caught fish but I keeping having problems with them not running straight. I've adusted them and continue to have issues with them. So I just went to other baits that caught fish. Quote
HogHunter Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Huh, I was really surprised to see how many people didn't like this lure. I've had pretty good luck using the baby eel in the color tadpole around pads. I haven't caught a lot of huge fish on it but at least for me and a few buddies it's been a good numbers lure. Quote
