RobbyZ5001 Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I am in PSU's bass club. I was not here in the beginning when the club was formed but I think I have an idea of how its done. Universities usually have a system for club sports. Find out at your University what you need to do to get a club started. Some colleges have like different level of clubs. Some colleges also throw money at you to get a club started. Start the club and then contact http://www.collegiatebass.org/. Get on that list and I think they will send you tournament information and so on. I am not sure if you have ever been in a club but the one at school should be ran sort of like a local bass club. Have meetings regularly get the word out so you can have a decent amount of people. Get a government hierarchy (President, Vice, Secretary, Treasurer). You might want to research a bit on clubs to see how to run one since you are most likely to be the president. Things to think about (Dues, Sponsors, Points System, BOATS). bmadd Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Here at the UT Martin club, we've been told that the CBAA is done for. A lot of empty promises and hype on their part has left a real bad taste in clubs mouths across the country. College Bass and JBM Associates are now going to take the reigns of collegiate bass fishing. I was a part of starting our club here at our University. First you need to find your contact at your school. Find out what criteria you have to meet to be recognized as a club on campus. Here we had to have ten members, a faculty adviser, officers, and a constitution. CBAA's website did offer a constitution where all you had to do was fill in your school's name and you could use it. Â Once you have all that done, I believe you have to have a minimum of 3 qualifying tournaments to determine who can enter the national tournaments. There is no standard for a points system, just find one that works, is easy, and stick with it. Some schools hold invitational tournaments. They set their own limit for the amount of participants. Most of them are a limit of three boats (6 people). We are now currently forming Collegiate Trails. It's starting to get big. I tried to cover everything. There are many schools that have fishing clubs but are not registered for either of the national tournaments. It's not hard to start your own club if you can't find a school nearby with one. Just find one person who really likes to fish and compete and he can be your partner and then 8 other people to fill up the slots to become a club. They wouldn't have to do anything other than sign their name. Quote

FHUAngler Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I am the founder of the FHU Bass Anglers over at Freed-Hardeman University in West Tennessee. We pretty much did the same things that all of these other guys have said. I will attest to the fact that the CBAA is falling apart. They basically made a whole lot of empty promises as Braden said. They haven't updated the national rankings since October, although there have been 3 or 4 invitational tournaments. They really don't do anything positive for the sport. The guys at Fox College Sports are REALLY stepping up and doing some work for the sport. They have just created the American Collegiate Anglers, which is an offshoot of the Bass Federation I believe. By being a part of the ACA, you are eligible for a whole bunch of discounts and stuff, as well as a membership with the Bass Federation. This association has not been fully kicked off yet, but there will be a formal announcement about it soon. Make sure to watch www.collegiatebasschampionship.com and www.collegebass.com to get the latest updates in Collegiate fishing. Auburn University, along with FHU and UTM and a few other schools has put together what we believe is the first collegiate fishing trail. It has 4 tournaments and each tournament will have about 30 boats in it. So as you can see, there is a lot of growth in Collegiate fishing, and plenty of opportunities to participate! Quote

I am trying to get some buddies up to help me get some stuff done to get the ball rolling. To be honest I would like to see it get going this next week. Like always you guys are great and I really can't say how much ya'll have helped. I was just basically shuffling in the dark with all of this stuff. ben23 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Ill be heading to NC State next fall. Basically the whole reason is because of their well-established bass fishing team. Their faculty adviser actually got in touch with me because of a post I made on this website. I can't wait to get out their and try to qualify for nationals! I was getting tired of the CBAA's attempts. I foresee the CBAA officially falling apart at this point, since the big dogs are getting involved. But-this is just the beginning. The ACA is supposed to give us a ranking system that will be updated much more often and it will also give the college anglers some for real benefits. These are all exceptional opportunities for the college angler. Plus the way the rankings will be put together will really equalize the smaller schools like us with the larger schools like Alabama and Texas A&M. The best thing about the sport of collegiate fishing is the fact that no matter what-any team can be beaten any given day. Quote
bmadd Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 The CBAA made promises to update their rankings after each invitational tournament held by schools. After each one of those invitationals they would post details and results of those invitationals but would not update their ranking system, which by its self was ridiculous and by no means fair. Also, the Big 10 schools had been getting together each year and hosting their own Big 10 championship. The CBAA thought they could fix something that didn't need fixing and ticked off a lot of anglers. As for this season, the development of the ACA is going to be the best thing ever if they follow up on their word. The actions they have already taken and the sponsors they have rounded up show me that they are serious and are not going to lag behind. They are going to include all invitational tournaments into their rankings. They are going to be unbiased and show both the FCS and the College Bass national tournaments equal coverage. I see no problems in what they have said, done, or have planned. Quote
