logger Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I asked the same question a few months ago here is what I came up with http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1168536595 I never heard back if the sunrise side guys were accepting new members or not. Quote
Jnamo Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I know it is a bit up the road, but Alpena has a bass club. They fish all over northern michigan, not just near Alpena. They have a website that lists all of their tourney's. Check it out. I know some of the guys and they are nice people and good fisherman. A good group to be in. Jeff Quote

I once had a seven day skunking, fishing the lake that my cottage is on... Hey logger its nice to know someone else fishes up here. Anything work well for you? Quote

I usually lean towrds spinners (chart/ tandem willow leaf) And shallow running cranks mann's -1, bagley small fry, x-raps in silver/ black back or bream patterns. It seems I am always catching more pike than bass. Going to focus more on tubes and jig/ pigs this year. I think I have just been fishing too shallow too often. I usually fish the Mio pond out of convienience (5 minutes away), Smith lake, Sage Lake, loon lake, but am looking to hit new lakes this year. What lake is your cottage on? Quote
XcoM274 Posted March 30, 2007 Author Posted March 30, 2007 Sand Lake, about nine miles from Hale and nine miles from Tawas. Good for cats and crappie mostly. Also some large perch. Cats up to forty pounds which is surprising cause its just about the cleanest lake in Iosco. However Indian lake which is in the same lake chain as us puts out some nice Northerns, 35-45" range. There are seven lakes total in the chain, all within walking distance of each other. Look it up on Google earth, smack dab in the middle of Iosco. We've got some local big bass contests that go on for all seven lakes for all summer and the winner is usually around the five pound mark. Kudos if you can have any largemouth luck on my lake, its clean and active water. All seven lakes drain into it. It is the deepest and cleanest, and is also spring fed. It has great smallmouth action as you may have guessed from my description. I was fishing for perch last summer and hooked into a five pounder. I was posing on the dock for pics, about to go enter the big bass contest. I got cocky and it flopped out of my hands, into the lake, never to be seen again. O well, better luck next year. Did I mention that we get stocked for walleye? They're pressured alot by locals though, 24-26 inchers can be caught. Hows Mio fishing? Quote

Did I mention that we get stocked for walleye? They're pressured alot by locals though, 24-26 inchers can be caught. Hows Mio fishing? At the Mio Pond I hooked a five pound smallie last year, a huge largemouth that would have gone 5+ easy but lost him at the boat, caught my first muskie out there 10.11 pounds, and hooked my personal best pike 7 pounds. There are however absolute mosters in this lake. I have a freind who snorkles for lures and he says there are some gigantic fish in there. That said the bigger smallies are a little hard to find, and the largemouth are in better numbers than people think but still a smaller population than smallmouth. The current also makes things difficult for me because I don't have a trolling motor so it tends to limit the areas of the pond I fish. The DNR stock the pond for walleyes every few years and I hear it can be good fishing I just haven't put time into it although landed a nice 19" one last year in the shallows. The pond is littered with hammer handle pike. I have had 11-15 pike days all between 15-18 inches just while bass fishing. If you try it you will most likely see me I am usually one of the only 2-3 people that ever fish it on a regular basis. All the locals belive it's too hard to catch fish out there. I have gone 6-8 hours without seeing another boat out there regularly. If you want to hook up this summer let me know I'd be interested in taking you out, or coming over your way. Thanks for the info. Hope this helps Quote
