It is true that people should fish for enjoyment, but i just feel like if im preforming well at a good level then i should get something out of the sport in return. Its like this for every sport.

If you really are performing well at a good level, then you shouldn't be worried about what the sport SHOULD be doing for you in return; you should already be taking advantage of what the sport has to offer. In other words, if you think you deserve something, you probably don't deserve anything.

One of the top quotes I have seen.

I was on ESPN and in an IMAX movie about extreme sports... But that was only because I was standing beside the winners of a downhill BMX race when the X games did a few events at Woodward.... But I digress...

I'll be honest with you, I went into last year really wanting to grow a small group of staff positions so I could start fishing tournaments and not be the only guy with no 'sponsors'. As I went through last year, I saw how much work, money and time you have to put into tournament fishing. Needless to say, I gave up on all that. I do it now because I love it. I also love teaching people about fishing and conservation, so that is really what keeps me writing and trying to teach people. I still have a few Field and Pro staffs because of my site, so maybe I'll get to a tournament or two... but it's not something I want to go into 100%.

I just realized my post really has nothing to do with this thread...

Why do you feel you need sponsorship to fish tournaments?

It's not a necessity but boy when it comes to paying for tournaments a couple sponsors would be very nice. For example say your interested in being a co angler in FLW tour it costs 700 dollars to enter and thats not including lodging, gas and all the other little goodies you have to pay for. Now this is just my 2 cents but im pretty sure thats why Nate was looking for a few sponsors last year. But what the hell do i know :D

Alright Guys, Let me put it this way, without being a wiseass. I have seen a lot of guys on this sight with really stupid shi* and most think because they win a couple 10 boat tx they should be sponsored. I'm not doubting anyone fishing ability or lack of. The odds of one of you guys being on espn competing in the elite series is highly unlikely. Enjoy the sport for the reason you started to have fun not be paid. Yes I realize a couple extra bucks for fishing can go a long way .....just because you were standing next to a pro when he won does not mean you won or in the crowd that does not count either

I doubt he was looking to jump in to tournaments at that level. I know Nate, and if that was his thinking, I'd say its pretty foolish to expect that level of support this early. Just getting some "pro staffs" doesn't pay your entry fees.  You earn your stripes, bro.
