bluerock bass Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 I love this section of the website! Here is an idea go out and get a job, save your money for baits, boat, etc. the best thing about this sport is getting out there and fishing. This can be with friends, father, kids, whoever. I can bet a paycheck that 99.99% of you will never be on ESPN or other sports channell. So grab your rod, go fishing, and just have fun. This why you started fishing in the first place. I'm proud to say I'm sponsored by me!!!! Quote
Carrington Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 It is true that people should fish for enjoyment, but i just feel like if im preforming well at a good level then i should get something out of the sport in return. Its like this for every sport. Quote
Texasfishingtips Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Only reason you need sponsors is so you can enter more tournaments cuz entry fees are pretty expensive. If you have the shot to go pro then its about a 10k entry fee. Clancy W Quote
maveric1 Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Yeah just to fish 3 opens, say for any selected region of the 3 regions, your looking at around 4grand for the 3 combined entree fees not counting travel expenses like fuel food and hotel plus prefishing expenditures so sponsorship can be a huge part of beingable to do what you enjoy at a competetive level. Super User David P Posted January 3, 2011 Super User Posted January 3, 2011 There are so many posts in this section similar to this, and although I agree the majority of the time, companies do benefit greatly from pro staff and sponsorships. If these 16 year old kids want to try, there's no need to discourage them. I personally wouldn't be anywhere close to where I am today if it weren't for deals and connections, and I'm extremely grateful for those. Many people underestimate how much companies benefit just from word of mouth. There's a much greater market than just FLW and BASS and those of whom watch and follow those circuits. I know several people on this site alone that have been featured on television and in bass fishing articles. Again, this isn't to necessarily disagree, it's just nice to sometimes encourage the youth instead of discourage. They just need to be realistic about what they can offer a company, and what benefits they deserve in return. Quote

There are possitives and negitives with every thing but I think its all in the learning process. Quote

Super User Tin Posted January 6, 2011 Super User Posted January 6, 2011 Does Vs. count? Yea..he said sports channel. I've been on ESPN 2 for the Jr. Bassmaster world championship, FSN/Versus for TBF/FLW stuff as well. That is 3 of us out of 8 posters in this thread. That is 37.5%, and if my math is right...37.5>.01 lol Quote

preach4bass Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I was on ESPN in 2005 (Pittsburg Classic). My wife, parents, and I were right next to the weigh-in stage all three days, so we were on TV a lot. Do we each get a check, or just me? :-? Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted January 7, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted January 7, 2011 Yep. I've been on ESPN several times during the last 3 Classics, Bassmaster.com several times, and VS too. Been on too many local stations to remember. I'm not bragging or anything. It just kinda happened. But back on topic - the cool thing about this sport is that you can do whatever you want and get enjoyment out it. Whether it's "going pro", fishing tournaments for fun, trophy bass hunting, or just enjoying the great outdoors with a friend or family member, this sport is all of that and more. Most importantly, there is no "wrong" or "right" way. I think that's why it appeals to so many. Quote
NateFollmer Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I was on ESPN and in an IMAX movie about extreme sports... But that was only because I was standing beside the winners of a downhill BMX race when the X games did a few events at Woodward.... But I digress... I'll be honest with you, I went into last year really wanting to grow a small group of staff positions so I could start fishing tournaments and not be the only guy with no 'sponsors'. As I went through last year, I saw how much work, money and time you have to put into tournament fishing. Needless to say, I gave up on all that. I do it now because I love it. I also love teaching people about fishing and conservation, so that is really what keeps me writing and trying to teach people. I still have a few Field and Pro staffs because of my site, so maybe I'll get to a tournament or two... but it's not something I want to go into 100%. I just realized my post really has nothing to do with this thread... Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted January 7, 2011 Super User Posted January 7, 2011 But back on topic - the cool thing about this sport is that you can do whatever you want and get enjoyment out it. Thats my favorite part about fishing. No matter what your level of involvement in the sport is, you can always relate with everybody else. From the top pros down to the kid sitting on the bank with a rod, everybody just wants to catch a fish. Fishing has really made me want to pursue a different career path in life. I've got no desire to become a pro though. I'd much rather get into the product development and or journalism side of things. This is one of those times that I really wish I took some advanced writing classes in college. Quote

Its like this for every sport. I'm not so sure I agree with this. What exactly should you get in return for performing well at a good level? What exactly is a "good level"? To say you deserve something out of fishing because you did well in a couple "good" tournaments just doesn't sound right to me. Quote

Agreed, as much as a win is a win, a club win with 10 guys compared to a win in a tournament with 100 is completely different. Quote
lmoore Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Agreed on both of the above. If you perform well at a good level, you get a payout from the tournament. If your not performing well enough to get a check, then you aren't performing well at a good level. Expecting anything beyond tournament winnings is just a false sens of entitlement, IMO. Quote
bassnleo Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Another that will be sending a PM for a paycheck. And.......yes, I have sponsors! Quote
