nhbass Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Hello My name is Travis Rockett and I am the 4 time NH Jr. State Champion. I have also won 2 AOY titles (recently this year.) I have been fishing since I was 4 years old with my dad. I am currently 16 years old and have my drivers liscense and Boating liscense. I like to fish all different bodies of water and all different techniques. I am a role model for all the younger kids in the club. I have a website with my resume on it I have it below http://sites.google.com/site/travisbassjr/ Thanks for reading, Travis Quote
Super User Tin Posted March 11, 2010 Super User Posted March 11, 2010 First, use spell check and fix some of those run ons and fragmented sentences. Second, I will ask you what I ask every other junior that comes on here looking for sponsors. Why are you so special? You list nothing in the way of community service, marketing skills, or inter-person skills. The website is very "blah" and in black and white, no pictures, nothing visually appealing. Second, what have you really accomplished tournament fishing? I have gone to three junior world championships, and hundreds of kids of been to them by now, how are different or better than them? Plus, no offense, but you only have 4 wins, all at the junior level. Go win some more tournaments and get some more credibility. By the way, what is a liscense? Quote

Super User Tin Posted March 11, 2010 Super User Posted March 11, 2010 LOL No seriously, I look at it as though so many of these resumes are by kids or guys that write them because they made it to a B.A.S.S. or FLW World Championship. And hundreds of other people have as well, so what will make them stand out to sponsors over these hundreds of others. Quote
bmadd Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 I get what you're saying and I agree. I was just bustin' on you Long Mike style 8-) nhbass- take Tin's advice. Anything that will make you stand out and stay in the back of the sponsor's head is a big plus. Whether it's some kind of speech contest you've entered or even public speaking at your church or somewhere else in your neighborhood. Those kind of things are what good sponsors are looking for. nhbass Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 I've won many junior tourneys and 4 state titles Quote
Super User Tin Posted March 11, 2010 Super User Posted March 11, 2010 You only have 4 wins listed on your resume, if you have so many then include them, or put, 10 other first place finishes, 20 top 5's ect. And how many people did you compete for your 4 state titles? Beef it up. Have you fished or placed well in any adult tournaments? Quote
Super User Tin Posted March 11, 2010 Super User Posted March 11, 2010 I get what you're saying and I agree. I was just bustin' on you Long Mike style 8-) I'm just fried this semester. I just finished a 14 page paper (not-double spaced lol) for my Sociology midterm about domestic duties in "lesbigay" relationships, lol. Quote
nhbass Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Why ar é all your guys comments all negative. Could I have some positives please. Quote
Super User Tin Posted March 11, 2010 Super User Posted March 11, 2010 Why ar é all your guys comments all negative. Could I have some positives please. This section is typically dedicated to critiquing resumes to make them better. It's all trying to help you, if you have thin skin, don't bother. Quote
bmadd Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 We're not trying to put you down or anything. We're trying to offer you some advice and help you beef up your resume so that you will look better to sponsors. We're not trying to call you dumb or that you don't have talent. Just trying to show you what we think would help you out. Quote
preach4bass Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 NH, You seem to have a lot of talent. These guys aren't disputing that. They are simply showing you how to better "sell" yourself to potential sponsors. If you listen to their advice you're liable to find someone that will help your fishing "career" along. Quote
Bass XL Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Why ar é all your guys comments all negative. Could I have some positives please. It's constructive criticism... Quote
Super User David P Posted March 12, 2010 Super User Posted March 12, 2010 I agree with everything Tin said aside from the tournament win aspect. Tournament wins aren't the only thing sponsors look, nor is it near the top of the least. I know plenty of guys that are extremely marketable and have all types of deals, and to be honest, they're lousy fisherman. I think you need to find away to set yourself apart , I didn't see anything in particular that truly stood out. You're on your way though, seems like you're doing good, just need to find a way to stand out. Quote
lmoore Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Quickest way to make your resume better? State what you are willing to do for companies. Companies could really care less what you have done in tournaments, especially at the junior level. Companies want to know that you are in it for them and not you. Quote
ChazfromVA Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Trust me tNH these guys can be ruthless but try to take something away from it... They wouldn't be saying much if they didn't want to help. A little constructive criticism can go a long way ;D Quote

I just finished a 14 page paper (not-double spaced lol) for my Sociology midterm about domestic duties in "lesbigay" relationships, lol. It just doesn't get any worse than that in college. I don't want a college degree THAT bad. Is that the ONLY subject they could come up with? uurrrrmmmpppphhh (puking) Quote

Super User Tin Posted April 22, 2010 Super User Posted April 22, 2010 I don't have a website and where did I misspell this? I'm clearly missing something here. I noticed I typed inter-person instead of inter-personal. Quote
