etommy28 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 im not sure what your saying. are you saying this is a bad thing? as far as the school part goes, every school has standards for grades and hours that must be up kept. Quote
Super User Tin Posted March 3, 2010 Super User Posted March 3, 2010 Good for them....your point is? Quote
Michael Schilling Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 WOW! Easy guys....I was just trying to point out that for some kids, getting sponsored might be as easy joining your college fishing team. Geez...try and do something nice, and you get the 3rd degree. Maybe you guys should lighten up. Quote
etommy28 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 oh ok, let me just say where I was coming from, from your title, it sounds like you are saying they should go to school and not do this. thats how I saw it, and I might have been a little quick on the trigger but i here that alot(and frankly im kinda tired of it) so that is kinda what I figure you might be saying. Super User Tin Posted March 3, 2010 Super User Posted March 3, 2010 It may open doors but I would like to see or hear more about it. Like if these guys have to work shows, deal with possible customers on a 1-on-1 level, and speak on the sponsors behalf. I do not see a lot of college teams doing this and instead just wear a shirt. I'm sorry but I still feel that about 95% pursue sponsorships to say "look at me I have sponsors!". They also look at it as a solidifying accomplishment of them being a "good" fisherman and can say they get free stuff. Quote
etommy28 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Tin, Im gonna remind you your are making a BIG generalization that in some instances may be true with alot of people but not every one and it can give the people who its not true with a bad rap when every time some thing like this comes out people speak the worst. Some people of the college age work extremely hard on there fishing, school and being a good rep for there sponsors. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 3, 2010 Super User Posted March 3, 2010 Its easy to make big generalizations when for the majority, its true. At least around here, it seems that way. Here is one example of the "selection" of sponsors one local kid lists: OAKS CREEK INN ULTIMATE SMARTLINKS LURE SYSTEM PRO STAFF TYLURE CUSTOM BAITS PRO STAFF BASS ANGLER'S GUIDE THE MAGAZINE PRO STAFF BLACKWATER INTERNATIONAL PRO STAFF TORAY USA PRO STAFF BEAR PAW CUSTOM BAITS PRO STAFF TRITON PRO STAFF OMEGA CUSTOM TACKLE PRO STAFF REACTION INNOVATIONS PRO STAFF ARDENT REELS PRO STAFF POWELL RODS PRO STAFF NICHOLS LURES PRO STAFF MUSTAD HOOKS PRO STAFF JACKALL LURES PRO STAFF And he's trimmed this list by at least 1/2, LMAO. I can see that, I have not personally seen that person. I have in the past turned people down because I did not have the time. I guess, I need to except the fact that just cause i work hard does not mean every one else will, and most people will assume that because they dont people like me and the others that work hard wont either. I guess i ahve to accept it but I wont like it. Quote
Super User Tin Posted March 3, 2010 Super User Posted March 3, 2010 Exactly, the same is true around here. And I'AM one of those college students who work hard on their work and fishing and be a good rep for sponsors along with a nearly full time job and battling a chronic disease. I have had several great and big sponsorship deals since I was 15. I know the game and over half of the stuff I see on this Resume section is exactly what I said it was. People who want free stuff and have the opportunity to say they are a sponsored fishermen. And that is exactly why people come on this board and others offering "sponsorships" and field or pro staff positions that offer 15-30% off on product if you buy in or advertise and work for them. They know they can take advantage of said fishermen and make sales and advertising off them. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 3, 2010 Super User Posted March 3, 2010 I like free stuff. Tin, sponsor me!!! Buy twinkies and Hostess pies for me all day and I will rep you to the end!!! Quote
Super User Tin Posted March 4, 2010 Super User Posted March 4, 2010 roflmao!!! I'm going to try to pick up Wafflehouse. Hopefully I can get 7% or so discount. Quote
Super User Tin Posted March 4, 2010 Super User Posted March 4, 2010 No joke I remember a guy who used to fish some of the southern Bassmaster Opens, and he had his truck and boat wrapped in Texas Roadhouse stuff, lol. Quote
bmadd Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 The best wrap I've seen is this guy who fishes the Weekend Series here in TN. The sponsor is some big law firm but the graphics is a picture of the US Constitution with ink well and quill! Quote
dave Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 roflmao!!! I'm going to try to pick up Wafflehouse. Hopefully I can get 7% or so discount. I ate at a Wafflehouse once. You would only be getting 93% bad food. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted March 6, 2010 Super User Posted March 6, 2010 That's it!!!!!! I'm getting my boat wrapped by Waffle House...... The floating hashbrown, scattered, smothered and covered. Quote
chris090981 Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Nothing tickles me more than putting a sack of 5 in my UNWRAPPED boat then watching guys with wrapped boats pull straight past the scales and out the launch exit ! 8-) Quote
Coonedawg Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 You could always get Oscar Meyer to wrap your boat....Then you could be fishing on a floating weiner. Quote
