Hello,

My name is Scott and I am an Electrical Occupations major at Pennsylvania College of Technology. While I am very interested in the electrical business, my heart and soul thrive off of fishing and the outdoors. At my school, there is no fishing team, but ample fishing grounds and oppurtunites for us. If anyone is interested, or has any tips for me on starting one, i would greatly appreciate any input. Thank you.

Sincerly,

Scott

Does your college have a way to start student clubs? I know at Iowa State where I attend all you need is 5 friends to start a club. So I would go about starting a fishing club and see who is interested in that, then form a team from members of that club and use that organization to get whatever benefits/perks registered organizations at your school get.

What the guys did here at Troy was simply this. Rather than trying to start a "Bass Team," they created a club. We are not recognized by the athletic department like some schools, but rather a student organization. So instead of calling our club the Troy University Bass Team, we named it Troy University Bass Fishing Association. This way you can use the group status to encompass all varieties of fishing and give guys a place to come in and be a part of a fishing club (not just bass). Good ideas would be to have someone share knowledge at meetings (pro-fishermen and people in the industry) and have members bring info to the table. We do a lot of the tournaments, but mainly focus on community service activities. Camp ASCCA here in Alabama, Boy Scouts, there are a number of ways to use the fishing platform to do good in the community service arena. These clubs are great for getting guys together who love fishing. We do subdivide the "Bass Team, and the Association," somewhat, but all in all we hold true to the club more so than a competitive team. We have acquired fantastic sponsors in Net Bait, Davis Bait Co., ALX Custom Rods, Cabin by the Lake.  This has been a long post I know. If you need any other info PM me.

My fishing club volunteers with a local conservation center teaching kids how to fish. Also, we just hold days where we go out and fish with each other or hold club tournaments. Fundraising is also pretty important for us.
