Simple yet complicated question. At what point in your fishing career do you start to persue sponsership, who do you go to, and how do you go about doing it?

I'd have to agree with this. Education is very important. You are applying for a job in which you will represent their company and you better be ready to work for what you get. If you give them a resume that is full of spelling errors then you will probably be overlooked. It isn't easy getting sponsored and it's even harder to make that sponsorship work for you.

If this kind of criticism bothers you that much them maybe you aren't ready to be put under a microscope by your potential sponsor.

Take a look at the many threads here in the Resume section and then decide if you are ready for a sponsorship.

I'll third that is it more unprofessional of you to spell sponsor incorrectly than for someone to point it out to you, so you don't make that mistake on your resume. But obviously you haven't read anything on this forum because spelling is a big issue when you are trying to land a sponsur, sponcer, sponser......S-P-O-N-S-O-R

Not spelling the word sponsor correctly is a reflection of you either being lazy or not caring and who would want you to work for them upon feeling either is true about you?

I for one would have deleted or thrown out your resume upon reading the title spelled incorrectly, so yes, it is very important. You should have thanked Tin rather than taken offense.

If the fact that basic spelling and grammar appear to be too much to expect from you, replies like this should certainly guarantee that no sponsor would bother looking at you for more than two seconds.

Ask yourself this question. Would you purchase fishing products from some guy who is sitting around saying things like "You'ins outta buy this here bait. It done catches fish reel good. I'm a telling you that this here puppy is a maghic fish catch'n masheen! "? Ofcourse not, he sounds like he wouldn't know a good fishing lure from a hole in the ground. Well, thats what you sound like when you say things like "Thanks, you a REAL professional. ". You see that should be "Thanks, you are a REAL professional.". Or "Thanks, you're a REAL professional.", would also suffice.

Perhaps we've misjudged you and you are totally aware of this. Perhaps your strategy for attracting sponsorship is intentionally geared towards coming across as uneducated, immature, and overly sensitive. I can't imagine why you would chose that approach, but perhaps you feel its the best way to reach the "average joe". If so, I certainly apologize.

Ok, thank you all. I'll be sure to be more careful when writing ANYTHING! I guess I was concentrating too much on the question, and I didn't even do that very well. Then again, it was about 3am, but no excuses. Thank you all, and you too, Tin. I dont take kindly to people talking smack, and that's what it sounded like coming from you. You understand, don't you? Anyway, have a great day, and TIGHT LINES! Hey, I bet I'll never spell S-P-O-N-S-O-R wrong again!

Well, I think everyone has already emphasized spelling enough.  Can someone help this guy now?  lol I mean it was a simple mistake, give him a break guys!  I'm curious to know myself.

Tin would talk smack to KVD, don't let him get under your skin, I'm the one to worry about, lol.

I'm tough on folks looking to get sponsored, probably where Tin gets some of it from, but both of us have been in this game and we just want you to know that this is how it is.  You need thick skin and open ears,...so far the ears are open, that's a good start.

Next, check out a few of the sticky's in this section, (there's even one about spelling and grammar, lol).  There are folks from the industry who have helped compile those threads, you won't find more REAL info anywhere on the net.

1st: Learn to take criticism and expect it. It isn't disrespect or trying to make you feel bad. It is there to HELP YOU! Remember, this is online, just because you read something one way, doesn't mean the person wrote it like that. Take it with a grain of salt, put it in the back of your mind, and better yourself from it.

2nd: I just want to throw this out there so all the young guns out there who want sponsors so badly need to realize. THE GRASS ISN'T ALWAYS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE. Sure you might get free stuff, but with that comes tying up your weekends that you could be fishing to work shows and do things for the company. So now for some of you guys that don't drive, now you need to get your parnets to get you to and from places. And what good are they getting from it?

3rd: Grammar- Think before you type and proof-read it. I have said it time and time again. What company is going to sponsor you if you appear to be, shall we say, not the brightest bulb on the tree, to be nice.

Just had to throw that up there again.
