Nope never felt one, I'm just talking about the marketing and idea behind it. So you have to buy rods on the spot so they know you are a user of their product? :-/ But it is understandable for them to want someone who knows their product. I think there is a better way of doing it though.

The other thing I have seen with a few bait companies is "buy this sponsership start up kit for $500 and you become field-staff, buy this add on kit for an additional $250 and become full pro-staff." I won't mention the names of these companies but as wrong as it sounds, it is a great way of getting people to buy products. People will do ANYTHING to say they have sponsers and to make their resume better and companies can take advantage of it. Plus for the companyi ts a win win, the person spends $500 or $750 and they send them advertising stuff, and some products, and they get people to buy stuff from you at a regular price.

I understand what your point is. I agree, some are sales gimmicks.

First, if you have ever handled an Esox Carbon Fiber Rod, you would love to have the discount.

Secondly, I fully understand a company wanting a commitment from a possible rep. Throwing money and product at  just anyone is a poor business plan and a recipe for failure. I personally feel the Esox approach is right on. I use their product because "I" think it's a good product, not because I get to wear their hat, which I don't.

I would really like to hear why this is a bad plan by Esox. I have been approached by guys wanting a sponsorship from El Grande Lures. My first question is; "Have you used any of my lures, and what do you think of them" I keep a customer list, so I am pretty sure I know who has bought from me as I don't sell retail. Why would I want anyone representing my company who has never used my product?

you are absolutely right I would not want someone representing my company who did not actuallyusm products owon them. I have used a some essox rods howevere I don't know if they were carbon fiber. It was a few years ago.  I was merely trying to explain to someone that pro-staffing isn't about.  Just making money in fact you will most likely pay more than what will actually be given to you.  I loved the essox rods and that is why I contacted them.  However I could not affford to buy 5 of their rods at full price in fact I plan on contacting them again in a few years to get some rods.  They make a great product, but beingin school I wasn't paying that.
