preach4bass Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 You seem like a very accomplished young angler. If I owned a local tackle shop, near you, I'd want to have my company's name on your accomplishments. Just make sure you get someone (your High School English teacher) to edit your resume. There are some corrections to be made, but I like the format and the content. Quote
G3 Fan Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Aside from some grammar and spelling issues it looks pretty good. I don't want you to think I am picking on you because I am trying to help. I have seen a lot of resume's in my day not for fishing sponsorships but for employment in the everyday world. Spelling and grammar jump off the page, especially in the computer era. -Instead of writing a paragraph about your accomplishments you might want to list them as bulleted points. -When mentioning your business give some examples of how you became successful, i.e marketing strategy etc. - I wouldn't ask the question "What would I expect from a sponsor?" I would say something along the lines of,"I know I am young and I still have a lot to learn about the industry. I feel that with your help and guidance I can take my career to the next level while promoting your products. Some may see my age as a liability but I see it as an asset, I think I can help sell your product to younger anglers. Seeing their idols fish with your product is great but if they see one of their peers fishing tournaments it may inspire them to give it a try. I'm not trying to put words in your mouth just trying to offer some advice. I always try to say things with as few words as possible while still getting the point across. One other thing I tell my employees when they want something is "Don't tell me what you are going to do but show me what you have done." Quote
JuniorFisherJJ08 Posted May 30, 2007 Author Posted May 30, 2007 Yes, i realized i had some spelling and grammar errors. With an aunt as an college englis teacher i shall have her look over it. But thanks guys and i dont mind if you pick on me, its just makes me strive harder. G3 is it alright if i use this? G3 Fan Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 You are welcome to it. After re-reading it you might want to change the end of it to "get more involved" instead of "give it a try" Good luck Quote
JuniorFisherJJ08 Posted May 31, 2007 Author Posted May 31, 2007 yes g3 that sounds even better. Thanks so much. Quote
G3 Fan Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Very nice, I hope things work out for you. If you currently own a lot of tackle from a particular company I would start with them. You have to practice what you preach. If you "shotgun" your resume you might not get many replies. But if you pick manufacturers that you currently own and use equipment from you can personalize your resume to that company. Make sure to tell them what products you own and what you like about them. Approach the companies with the mindset that every little bit helps and make sure they know you aren't looking for a full ride but if given the chance you will prove yourself to them. If you do get some feedback make sure to keep the company updated on your progress. Back in the '80's I was into drag racing and I was amazed at how much free stuff I was able to get just by asking for it. Quote
JuniorFisherJJ08 Posted May 31, 2007 Author Posted May 31, 2007 Yes, i will customize it some, I have contacted a rod manufacture, and we have struck a mighty fine deal. I will be signing with them and hopefully will have a few more in the future. Sponsorships helps alot, this sponsorship saved me ALOT on rods. I wouldnt a reel sponsorship, or some glasses, or soem lures. im still looking for them. I will be giving lots of media exposure. to the states of ohio, west virginia, and possibly some virgnia.
