bassfisher152 Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 California Bass Fishing Resume: Hello, my name is Nick and I have been fishing for about 3 years now. I own a Ranger bass boat complete with electronics and trolling motor. I am currently involved in local and state operated tournaments in my home state of California. I am fortunate enough to live near 3 trophy bass lakes: Lake Casitas (Oak View), Lake Cachuma (Santa Ynez), and Lake Castaic (Castaic). I have great experience in 2 of the three lakes and hope to get more practice time on the third this year. I fish 2-3 times a week with my father. For those who may not be familiar with bass fishing in California, it is not unlike other areas around the country. The fishermen around here rely heavily on the advice of other anglers. Personally I think that most of the weekend anglers I know rarely experiment with new baits and colors. Therefore, I could spread the word about a bait and be almost certain they will try the same. Right now, and for the majority of the year, the most popular baits are swimbaits and plastic jigs, such as spider jigs. I will be willing to assist the company in any way I can to develop the best performing equipment and customer satisfaction. I am personal friends with owners of tackle shops in my area and I am sure they are interested in distributing a product that I promote. earthworm77 Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 Nick, I'm going to provide you with a critique of your post, please do not take anything personally. I review resumes for my custom tackle company and I am also sponsored but a bunch of companies on my own. The first thing you need to do once you complete a resume is read it several times and ask yourself...."If I was reviewing this resume, would I be interested in this guy? Does this resume offer me anything different that the ten million others I recieve? Can this guy do anything for my company" If the answer is no, don't submit the resume and keep working on it. I do not think many sponsors would look at a resume on any website and contact a guy unless the resume it spectacular. That said, your resume looks like every other one posted here. Please understand, you can't tell much from this resume. Most companies are looking for someone who has marketable traits and personality. If those facets are not covered, likley the resume is tossed. Like I said, I review tons of resumes and unless one stands out and is not a clone of all the others, it is guaranteed I'll pass on it. I also do not recommend you put this line in your resume... Looking For: Rods Reels Line Soft Baits Hard baits You are trying to sell yourself, not request products. You are also in no position to ask for anything. To some that might be a turn off. Keep in mind this part of the site was set up for guys to post their resumes for critique. Occassionally someone gets a contact. I've gotten a couple myself but that is the extreme not the norm. I recommend you polish up your resume and then actually solicit individual companies for sponsorship rather than hope someone comes to you. If you need help, contact me through pm and I'll help you put something together.-C Quote
CSB Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 I agree completely. Resumes, on top of proposals, are used to sell the concept. After the decison maker has reviewed your materials, you should get a face to face meeting with that person(s) to negotiate what you will be recieving in return for the service you provide. A decision maker is loking for return on investment, your job is to show how you can provide that. What promotional ideas do you have? How many trade shows can you attend? Do you have a web site? Just remember to never, never, never, ever ask for anything, be it product or monetary compensation in any of your marketing materials. Quote
