tbird Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Matt , as a proffesional businessman I think your marketing skills will be a huge asset to you. I would add your tournament experiences as well. I do not know from your resume how much experience you have but if you have limited tournament experience a bass club in your area would be a good place to start as most larger clubs are very competitive. Fact of life : if you can't dominate your local club you have no business going pro it will be a sad experience. Once you have done well in that move on to larger open tournaments. Good luck, hopes this helps Quote
mattj06 Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 Well, I have fished in some club tournaments but the thing is, I really didnt learn much, and I never had a knowledgable boat partner. I will still fish tournaments sponsor, or no sponsor. I want to learn as much as I can, and I do feel confident that I will catch fish. Quote
tbird Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 In the larger clubs (50 to 100 members) you will learn something if not from your fishing partner from the members themselves. You will notice a definite pattern of who is the better fisherman in the club and can gain valuable info . I know I did. Just trying to help Quote
mattj06 Posted April 23, 2006 Author Posted April 23, 2006 I cant seem to find one in the DFW area that is that large. I have seen plenty of club sites but none seem to be that large. Quote
tbird Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Try asking around at the local tackle shops ,if they exist here in central Tx there has to be some in the Dallas area. Quote
kauf2938 Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 Matt- Go talk to Sam Fling at Fling Jewelers in Bryan. He is a member of The Bryan Bass Club. I was a member when I lived in CS and got a lot of Tournament experience with the club. They fish mostly local lakes and most of the time you can fish in the back of another members boat and learn different techniques as well as become familier with different lakes. The entry fees are low and everybody is friendly. Chris Quote
Riggin-n-Stickin Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 TBIRD, hey sorry to jump this off to another subject, but I'm currently deployed in Iraq and will be returning home to Ft. Hood in December. I am just curious as to what club your refering to. I presently well presumably belong to a club out of Taylor. I was just wondering what club if any are closer to that area. A email would be much appreciated mikwgarr@yahoo.com Quote
FIN-S-R Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 Heres what a few guys have told me who either make their living exclusively or partially by fishing. #1 important thing is how often do you finish in the top 10-20% of the feild in tourneys over 30 boats (Documented), and how many "titles" or boats/ championships/ Charity events youve won. This relates directly to time in the spotlight which relates directly to sponser exposure which is what your being "sponsered" to do being a pro staffer= promotional staff not proffessional staff #2 how many different venues can you exhibit these percentages #3 How long have you been exhibiting these statitstics #4 a well defined and detailed list of your fishing strengths and weaknesses and how that relates to the success you will have in the future #5 What you will persue in the future I tend to finish top 10% about 1/4 of the time (never won an event w/ more than 30 boats) I tend to finish top 20% about 60% of the time I cannot dominate on waters I dont know I only have about a 5yr history to support these statistics I am a solid deep finnesse guy but suck at power fishin I hope to supplement my income with fishing within the next 2 years...not just break even Im not near good enough to go pro...Evaluate your performance not your expectations Quote
