Okieracer Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I must admit I, like most people probably were, was very skeptic about fishing with a Senko style worm. I've read all about people on here loving them so I decided to give them a try. I didn't buy Senko brand ones but I bought the same style. I actually found some Rick Clunn brand ones that came in a kit with 4 colors at academy, I also bought some Yum dinger ones because my gf liked the color of them. I went fishing at a local pond with some buddies and rigged one up weedless and weightless. First cast I got a bite but missed the hookset. Next two casts I caught fish. A 2lb largemouth and a very audacious perch that was just bigger than the worm. I'm hooked. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I usually T-Rig them but over the last few weeks I have been Wacky Rigging them Awesome. If interested try these hooks. http://www.fishingworld.com/FalconLures/Details.tmpl?ID=10243698951039588&Cart=12215958245660278 Quote

Geez...How long have you been in a coma? The GYCB Senko has been the most productive bass bait in the world for more than ten years. : Quote
Super User 5bass Posted September 16, 2008 Super User Posted September 16, 2008 I catch more wacky rigging than any other way. Be careful not to fall into the stickbait coma though....its easy to get in and very hard to get out of. You should check out *** for some great deals on trick sticks. All the popular colors, nice product, great prices, great service. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Well GOOD MORNIN' Partner Rise and shine, it's time to catch some fish Quote

Don't feel bad Okieracer, after a 10yr fishing hiatus I hope to try my first "Senko"-style bait tomorrow evening. The Sluggo was hot when I faded and is still my favorite bait. Quote
Okieracer Posted September 16, 2008 Author Posted September 16, 2008 I've fished off and on most of my life. Mostly perch jerkin' and catfish. Only recently have I gotten into serious bass fishing and possibly fishing tournaments . I'm only 22 so don't think I've missed out too much. Quote
jb_adams Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I've got tons of senko style worms. They work great sometimes here but most of the time, we can fish them all day and maybe catch a few. I used to have a lot of luck with them on a shakey head rig. For one reason or another, they're not that hot of a bait for me anymore. I prefer smaller worms when I'm worm fishing because I get more numbers and I prefer numbers usually. Like finesse worms or 4" senko's vs. the larger 5&6" stick baits. Tiki Stick (Wave Worms) work well too for much less. I prefer *** just because Brent's such a good guy and has great customer service and baits. Sad though, I've only ordered once but I plan on ordering again. I'm just now getting back into worm fishing again. Crankbaits and spinnerbaits will ruin a man. Once you get to casting and cranking and fishing fast, it's hard to slow down and twitch a worm. Quote

I hate using senkos and senko knock offs, I do it on occasions, but I really don't like throwing them as im tired of seeing them, everybody and their mother throws em where I fish. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted September 17, 2008 Super User Posted September 17, 2008 Yeah, it's possible. Especially if you've already been in the "stickbait coma" in the past. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted September 17, 2008 Super User Posted September 17, 2008 personally I just don't like fishing senko's or drop shotting either. I get bored quick with it. I like texas riggin worm fishin and jig and pig fishing, but for some reason senko's drive me nuts!! I think it is because you just throw it and let it fall, pick it up and do it again. FWIW I also hate bait fishing, don't like using worms, minnows, shiners or anythig like that. I like to think I'm doing something to catch the fish. I like crankbaitin, love buzz baitin, anything that I'm actually doing something. I can fish slow with worms and jigs for awhile but if the fish ain't keeping me busy I'm likely to start throwing a plug, spinner are buzz. Maybe I don't have enough patience to fish. Quote

Super User retiredbosn Posted September 18, 2008 Super User Posted September 18, 2008 I know what you mean, who can stand to do anythig that brings the bass to the boat. I go fishing so I can cast and retrieve nothing else. : : Quote
Super User grimlin Posted September 18, 2008 Super User Posted September 18, 2008 I absolutely hate em'. Not only can i not catch anything, nothing seems to bite em' for me either.I read up on just about everything, even watched what i was doing and what my bait was doing in the water. I don't get it....yet i throw them on every outing, because i really want to figure this out. Quote
Bobby Uhrig Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 The Yamamoto senko is the greatest fish catching bait ever-period-the end. I have actually conducted tests where the catch ratio of wacky rigging it compaired to texas rigging it was about 10 to 1 . When you Texas rig it(weightless) you get more of a darting action and when stopped you get the shimmer effect. I truely believe the wacky rig triggers the attack response because it acts more like a injured baitfish. It is a more exagerated movement. Also displacing more water and vibration. Then the dieing shimmer is the iceing on the cake-it poses no threat and is a simple meal-in other words its not obnoxious. When you used to go shiner fishing and that shiner was on its last leg-remember that twitching motion then the fall. Thats what I and the senko try to mimic. try it and see for yourself and let me tell you another thing-nothing but nothing falls like a TRUE GARY YAMAMOTO SENKO- I spent hours underwater filming them compaired to the knockoffs and nothing was as balanced and had that shimmer effect like it. I do this with jigs. I either don't get bites, don't react fast enough on bites, get a bite and then lose the bait (broke line), or I'm not fishing it right to get good consistant bites. Yet I have one tied on almost every outing. Jigs resemble the primary forage for bass, the crawfish. They work all year long in the right application. It's favorite forage for bass. I fish the same colors, size and places my buddy does and he catches bass on jigs often. Some people have luck, some people don't I guess. It's a strange unexplained phenomina. If you are not catching anything with the senko, try using it differently than you have ever used it before. Try tying on a small 3-4" senko behind a popper with a 2-3ft leader. You'll catch something that way. Or wacky rig one with a bobber about 5' up the line on a windy day. The wave action will pulsate the worm and you'll catch something if the bass are there. See what I mean? I'm doing the same thing with jigs right now. Trying to be different. So far, I'm getting more bites. Quote
