lame.  Most any fish in a fish tank will start to respond to people walking by, thinking they're getting fed.  (Even if they're not being starved)

Dr. Jones from Pure Fishing has done experiments on tanked bass and his results show that a plastic worm is the only bait that bass consistently "forget" about.  He was quick to point out that that notion is pure anthropomorphism, but the results are there nonetheless.

You have to catch them. I don't know the rules per state about keeping game fish as pets. I'd like to know because I'd keep a bass in my tank if it's allowed just to watch it suck in mice and goldfish.

I will never believe this experiment based on two things:

1 - The experiment was funded by Berkley producer of power worms and gulp brands of plastic worms...

2 - I consistently catch in the same places with the same cranks excellent bass from dinks to 5-6 pounders.

LOL, yeah right, he is personally responsible for the plastic worm craze. You are paranoid. Most of his findings contradict his own company's marketing hype. But you can believe what you want -- plastic worms don't work, LOL.  And oh BTW, they make cranks too.  But they probably have fixed the data behind recent color tests as well.  Those results showed that the fish were more likely to bite a naturally colored crank over some funky color in high visibility, but you already know that's bunk.

My point was, if anyone else didn't get it, was that one of the largest plastic worm producers employed a scientist to come up with an experiment that basically tells people to buy more plastic worms...Imagine that...

Thanks for the grade.  You know what they say, those that can, do.  Those that can't, grade homework.  If anything, what's funny about a study on plastic worms, is that he proved what anglers have known all along.

I've argued this topic before and can't believe nobody else really questions this study.  It is the same in the real world as an Exxon funding a study to prove burning oil doesn't cause pollution.  I don't think I am being overly paranoid about it... Maybe the political season has me in more of a 'doubt everything you hear' mind frame than usual.

I hear you John. And I think its always good to question the what exactly the person was testing for. I don't feel that Dr. Jones is as interested in interpreting the data in a way that is favorable for his company as he is interested in finding some truth that his company can exploit to bring better products to the marketplace and more profit to his company. I work with statistics everyday, and the only truth in them is what you carve from the recordset to get your intended results. Four out of five dentists may actually only include five dentists, and four of them work at Crest, LOL.

In this case, the good old plastic worm has proven one thing to me - it usually will catch some bass. There are better baits, sure, but its one bait you can set someone up with where they can actually learn how to fish.

Its the second bait I like to introduce a newbie to, after a Senko .
