IndianaBassin Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Thought we were going to finally break free of winter, but another cold front is coming in this weekend. Water hasn't warmed up a lot yet. Temps still in the mid 40's. Air temps are projected to be 24 L-40 H for the next 4-5 days. We have a tournament on Sunday when we launch it it supposed to be only 26 with a high of 39 later in the day. The lake has been sprayed for the last two years and there is not much vegetation growing anywhere anymore. There is a large area at the end of the lake that has lilly pads, but I am sure they are not all the way up yet, plus most of it is only about 2 feet deep. There are a few points, and a couple of ridges in the lake. There is also a small hump in one area of the lake. There are also a couple of islands, as well as, 4-5 channels. There is also a small stump field that is in 3-4 feet of water. The islands have down trees and brush along them. Any thoughts?? I have never fished in this cold of water before. I figure them to be tight to cover, but I also figure them to be deep. I was thinking spoons and jigs for the deeper points and ridges, then some type of soft plastic for pitching to the isolated timber on the islands. Maybe a shallow square billed crank for around the stump field. What are some techniques you guys would try? Quote
Md Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 First I would concentrate on steep channel bends that come close to shore, or bluff walls. Try spoons, blade baits(silver buddy), drop shot, and jigs. I wouldn't overlook that stump field either. I'd try a jig, a jerkbait, or a lipless crank. With the jerkbait, start off with LONG pauses between jerks, but if you don't get bit, try different retrieves. Also with the lipless crank, fish it very slowly, almost like a worm. Try to bump it off of those stups without hanging up. Good luck man! Quote
