Super User ww2farmer Posted March 2, 2011 Super User Posted March 2, 2011 They don't all get along, I have heard stories from a couple of former elite series pros.........some of it is quite eye opening. As for that little banter between KVD and Martens, I love when they show that stuff, it was better than showing more taped interview footage of Rook and Martens whining that KVD was catching all the big fish, those 2 came off as total tools in my eyes. On the other hand, I thought Remitz, Chapman and Paulaniuk were shown in a good way. And who wasn't thinking some one didn't prank Faircloth by loosening his reel seats, I haven't had that happen to me.............ever, let alone twice in the same tournament. Quote
Bassnajr Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Farmer I thought the same thing...either that or he better get a new rod sponsor!!! ;D Quote
bigbassctchr101 Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Doesn't Kreit have a bait called the squirrel or something?lol Surely everything KVD does or says doesn't make it so. I'm not saying KVD is a God. But it seems like any joking, sarcasm or anything he does is taken to the extreme. Maybe he doesn't like them guys?? Or maybe he is just like A LOT of fisherman i know and likes to joke, cut up, "trash talk"... Its the man's favorite sport, its all of their favorite sport. EVEN if they were to say something to each other that seemed edgy, if I was fishing the biggest tournament of my life and my best friend or brother came along and was fishing beside of me, I'd start saying things that both, got under their skin, and seemed a little short and direct. It wouldn't have anything to do with me liking or not liking the other person. Quote
deadeye32. Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I actually think Kreit and VanDam are good friends and KVD has always called him squirrel because he's just a squirrely guy. His baits are made by big bite bait company and called "squirrel tail worm". For some reason though I thought they were buddies just busting each others balls. Quote

Super User 5bass Posted March 2, 2011 Super User Posted March 2, 2011 I took KVD and Kriet as good friends, judging from last year's Classic footage. I missed the KVD/Martens exchange so I dont have an opinion on that. I'll have to look for that footage somewhere or remember to DVR the show when they air it again. ;D My guess is that they are cordial with each other, as most of them are, but KVD knows that he can get into Aaron's head whenever he wants to, so he does. The BASS video editors build up the drama as best they can to create a 'buzz' so people will have something to talk about. Like we're doing here. Quote
IntroC Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 The conversation between KVD and Martins wasn't a creation of fancy editing. It also didn't at all seem like they were buddies heckling each other. It was more like the alpha dog spanking the subordinate. A bit awkward and funny all at the same time. Quote
hookingem Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 I missed this due to my hectic work schedule on the weekends. Is it anywhere online youtube ect.? Quote

I guess gotta disagree here. I felt for rook in those moments here he was fishing the same pattern and basically the same spot and it seemed like he was struggling and kvd was whacking giants. Here you are fishing next to possibly the most dominant man in sports, and for no plausible reason you can figure out crushing you. He was simply in awe of the man. As for martens let's face it the ONLY thing that seems to separate him and kvd is mental toughness and mental discipline. Only a couple times have I seen kvd flustered. While martens mental break downs lead to small mistakes that add up to sometimes something huge. IMHO both anglers are on par with each other with patterning fish and figuring out how to get them to bight. It's just Kvd succeeds because of his mental toughness while martens succeeds despite of it just less often. He more then anybody needs a sport physiologist to help him with visualization and confidence. Let's face it if he had remembered his square bill crank box as he alleges he didn't on day 2. Then martens is probably our classic champ. Quote
Hot Rod Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 I actually think Kreit and VanDam are good friends and KVD has always called him squirrel because he's just a squirrely guy. His baits are made by big bite bait company and called "squirrel tail worm". For some reason though I thought they were buddies just busting each others balls. The story is that Kreit was at the lake one day. A crowd of people started to show up around the launch area. Kreit thought the crowd was there to see him being he is a pro fisherman. Turns out there was a water skiing squirrel that was arriving to put on a show and that's why all the people were there. They had no idea about Kreit. Kreit was obviously left with egg on his face and embarassed. So his buddy KVD nicknamed him "squirrel". ;D Quote
