I understand the point of this is to sell product. But this year, more than any other I have seen since I started watching bassmasters 8 years ago, is filled with product placement. Not sure when, but a fewa years ago, maybe 5-6, people were criticizing Jay Yelas because all he did after losing in the top six, was plug his sponsors. i get it, its their livelihood. But in the past, products/sponsors were plugged here and there. This year, it seems everyfish was caught on a brand new bait. Not that, that didn't happen in the past, but in general, sponsors were just thanked. Now every fish was caught on something new and pros were given lots of time not to talk about their day, but to push product. Come on now, it's not the academy awards.

Wait a sec... you mean those new Berkley Havoc baits may be just a little overhyped???

I could careless, if I depended on sponsorship money to make a living then I would plug them any chance I got, especially if it kept my family and I secure financially and I had a contractual obligation.

I do have a problem though with those pros who really don't believe in the product and/or actually use it.  The classier pros I believe are selective and actually believe in the product and you can see and sense that.  I really believe that Aaron Martens loves his Pheonix bass boat and his statements were REAL when speaking at the Classic final weigh-in this year.

I plug the hell out of Shimano, Yamamoto, Jewel jigs, Strike King and Spro crankbaits and I don't get a dime from any of them.

I don't think the plugging of products has gone overboard since they are plugging their sponsors. Shimano and the Avid rods are plugged on this site so much you would think some of the guys are being paid. They use the products and believe in them and nothing wrong with plugging what you believe in and that has worked well.

I'd like to know how many KVD 1.5's get shipped out tomorrow from all the tackle outlets around the country.  ;D

Pros are walking talking bill boards and advertisements. The Classic was in balance for sponsor plugs.  At least Jeff Kreit was honest enough to ask the crowd to buy Bar-B-Que potato chips to prove to the sponsor he was worth the money they pay him. The day of vests with patches and non-wrapped boats are long gone. Roll with it. The best plug was for the region, the state and the rebound of fishing in Louisiana. Poor folks have been through it.

TW is already sold out of the 1.5 and 2.5 chart/black back.  Back ordered for a month.   ;D

That is what gets me!  Brand new lures that are not even on the market yet.  So, how much of their catches are because of something new the bass have not seen before?

Here's the reality of the situation.  Without (as you put it) all this 'product pushing', these guys wouldn't be able to fish what they fish.

If they don't make money for a sponsor (and I'd love to know what KVD's impact has been for Strike King and Quantum over the last four to five years), they don't fish.  If they don't get that sponsorship, then professional bass fishing doesn't exist.

I just do not understand why so many take so much offense with people plugging products for which they get paid to advertise.  Just cannot fathom the mindset.

LOL and how quick they will sell out in stores now as well. I ordered a few well before the classic and they are safely in my tackle box now but they are going to fly off the shelves.

Virtually nil.  It isn't as if these new baits are game-changing.  They're basic plastic baits (if you're referring to the new Berkley baits) with a few little design changes.

It's the indian, not the arrow.

Yeah, I agree. The sponsors throw money at these guys so that they can get their product in front of people. I know most who complain about product pushing would do the same exact thing if they had huge sponsors that they needed to keep happy.

I know alot of the pushing sounds like b.s. and probably takes away from the interview but it is what it is and its not going away. They have a limited amount of time on the camera so they have to do it when they can.

I agree these guys are paid by their sponsors to use and plug there products otherwise they are getting paid. I started using Quantum reels cause of KVD when I got into fishing but they work for me so I continue to use them. Nascar has just as many plugs for sponsors when a guy wins and so does the NHRA. Some of the fishing shows on are 30 min commercial spots for sponsors and with watching there is a certain amount of plugging that is going to happen. You either enjoy it or you don't.

NASCAR, professional fishing, etc.  They are all sponsor driven.  Without the sponsors, the sports wouldn't exist.

How many of these fishermen could afford to fish the Elite Series without sponsors?  How many drivers could afford to drive a full NASCAR schedule without sponsorship (where a major sponsor will spend 10-15 million per season)?

Did you hear Mercer mention that Clubs were donating money so Paluniak good fish the Elite series?

I thought that was a little nuts.

Why would that be a little nuts? It's no small undertaking to wind up where he did and that doesn't come cheap.

These guys are always gonna plug away. It's business, and business always has the controlling word.

They're good, great fishermen and we get to see great competition footage.  I like and dislike the plugs both at the same time. Some is helpful, some is nauseating.

If they don't plug their sponsors and the product doesn't sell you won't have any fishing shows to watch.

This statement pretty much sums it up !!!!!!!!!!!!!
