laus Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Found this article (scientific study) by a fisheries department that states that non-tournament anglers think that tournaments are bad for them locally, bad for the fishery in their area, that most fish released die! Wow. Any comments? http://afsjournals.org/doi/abs/10.1577/1548-8675%281998%29018%3C0422%3ADIAFMA%3E2.0.CO%3B2?journalCode=fima Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted February 26, 2011 Super User Posted February 26, 2011 Having walked on both sides of this path, I think it is safe to say that non-tourament anglers don't look down on the "cast for cash" crowd any more than tournament anglers look down on the "stringer fishermen". unclejed Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 This article doesn't even deserve a response but I simply can't help myself. This "scientific study" is based entirely on perception. Just because a non-tournament angler perceives these things, does not make it so. I promise you, more fish live being caught and released than being cut up and fried. Tournament fishing has helped bass fisheries as well as many small town economies. This "scientific study" is filled with nonsense coming from both tournament and non tournament fishermen. Tournament fishermen are also recreational fishermen and probably have more respect for the fish they catch (and release alive) than any other fisherman. Quote
