So I received a 5,000 dollar a year Academic Scholarship to attend Radford University. Even though I would have loved to attend VT in the fall I understand the finical burden this money would lift off of my folk's shoulders. I know VT has an awesome Bass club and has had many outstanding finishes in the FLW tournaments.  My question to any of the current college anglers on the site is do you know if Radford has a club or a team that competes? Also are all expenses paid for by the National Guard in these tournaments? Any input from a college angler or anyone who may have any valid information would be greatly appreciated!

I appreciate it! Mind if I ask what college you fish for and how your experiences have been fishing at the college level tournaments?

I fish at Florida Gulf Coast, my expirance has been good, I like the boat us and college bass much more than FLW but I fish them all.

Right now is a great time to get into college fishing.  This is my last year and I kind of wish I had four more.  It's growing like crazy right now, though. I checked and Radford is fishing the FLW tournaments this year.  If you click on the Northern Division tournaments you can see the schools you compete against.

FLW pays a travel allowance based on ho far you go.  It's won't cover all of your expenses, but they're also the only tournament series I've ever fished that does that.  They also have anglers who don't make the EverStart finals stay and provide boats to the college members. It's a pretty good deal. Your club will be able to tell you all about how they go about funding tournaments and things like that.

they have a team, im on vt's team and they came to one of our club tournys one time.  i have no clue if they are any good though.

If they do not have one, you can start one yourself. I started a club at our school (private school) and once we became a "club" we could register.  I was only able to fish CollegeBass that year but they have since fished others I believe.  Since it was a private school our university actually funded EVERYTHING for us, travel, lodge, entry, food.  Don't know if many other schools would be like that though.

I'm already really stoked on it! Seems like an awesome opportunity to continue to do what I love in college and become a more knowledgeable fisherman overall.

Radford????

Hummmm.

Party school?????

Going out for the fishing team?

Don't forget that it is easier to get into college then out of college.

Good luck with your fishing exploits at Radford. You will have a great time, meet some wonderful people, get involved with some very pretty coeds and have a great 5 or 6 years of your life.

Basspro48 is at Radford. He is an outstanding fisherman and I hope he is on the fishing team. Look him up.

Let us know how you do and how the Radford team does.

And remember, LSU won the College Fishing Championship this year. One of many on the horizon for the Fighting Tigers in 2011. Baseball and football for starters!!!  :D   :D   :D

It's good I'm looking at both LSU and Alabama for college haha. Not for the fishing tho(which is a bonus).
