These guys (among many others) are true class acts.  I loved how they were able to show how much they truly LOVED this sport.  They are all great fisherman but also great people.  I know that over 90% of them guys fishing this past weekend are also great people and have great sportsmanship but standing up there and saying the things they said, and do the things they do was (as Brandon would put it "UNBELIEVEABLE")   Martens had some good things to say, that I'm sure just about anyone would say about KVD. But, being able to actually say them things in his position shows a true class act.  If that guy beat me that many times and put me in that position, it'd be hard to swallow it when it means that much.

I too was impressed with how all the runner-ups handled the loss.  True class and professionalism.

One thing though, there is no shame in loosing to KVD.  Though that doesn't make it less heartbreaking for the other guys they probably realized what they were up against.  It was a stunning performance.

With the top finishers all on the winning fish/pattern (only Chapman was not in that area) they had to be somewhat in awe of how KVD pulled the fish he did from the same water.    His dominance is just uncomprehendible. :o

If Boyd would have started in Cato from the first day he could have won the tournament. He only fished it the final day and the pattern he was on dominated what everyone else was doing and the area he was fishing was a good ways away from the KVD/martins/Remitz/Palanuik/Rook bunch. He found something special Sunday for sure...

Its funny, all the guys say they wish he (KVD) wasn't there, they wish they didn't have to fish against him.  But, I've heard several of them very guys come back and say they enjoy it.  What would be the use in being crowned champ if you knew you didn't beat the champ.  For the guys that do it "not for the money," they want KVD there.  They know that being the best is beating the best.

I believe most of these anglers are good people too, but you know they are human with faults and foibles just like everyone else.  It is a part of their job to accept defeat graciously.  Otherwise, no one would want to sponsor them.

Palaniuk's tribute to Kerchal was awesome! After either the first or second day weigh in, Dave Mercer brought up the fact that Bryan Kerchal was the only Fed Nation amateur to win and Brandon really didn't have a response, I was kind of disappointed at the time, he sure showed differently on Sunday!  What Swindle did was beautiful and Martens handled himself with tremendous class.  Good post!

What Brandon did was probably the most sentimental thing ever done at the classic. It show's how much effect Kerchal had on fishing and it shows that there are people following in his footsteps. I hope I can do the same.

I was thinking about you when that happened because I know how big a fan of Bryan you are too.  1 million more people probably know who he is now after yesterday.  Awesome!

It's going to be harder to find a whistle now.  :'(

I have one of the very few gold plated fish whistles that his dad had made after Bryan's death.  Ray gave my dad the gold plated one and us boys the regular ones like Brandon was carrying.  Its been in my "treasure box" for a long time. I remember carrying the regular colored whistle for a long time when I would go out fishing, always thought of it like a good luck charm.
