Bass Dude Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I see a lot of people putting down BASS, not renewing or not even becoming members anymore. I was wondering what you think BASS needs to do...and what do you want out of the organization?? Quote
Shad_Master Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I think the lack of response speaks volumes about the complaints about BASS - it's easy to gripe, hard to come up with positive suggestions. Quote

Are you implying that most anglers prefer FLW over BASS? More money on the FLW side. I personally wish FLW got more attention. A ton of superb athletes that go completely unheard of. Quote
The Rooster Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I doubt they're going anywhere. It's like Walmart, once you get that big.........people can get mad at the way you do things and it doesn't seem to matter. I still get their magazine, but out of the whole thing I find about 1/3 of it not interesting at all, and another 1/3 of it only about half interesting. I wish the magazine would go back to the way it was in the past. Just was a lot more enjoyable to read then. Oh, and get the $#%* Bassmaster Classic back in the fall and warm weather where it belongs. This crap of fishing the main tournament of the year in near freezing temperatures and at winter pool lake levels is ridiculous. Who thought of that?? Quote
jdw174 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I just renewed for another year. While I still enjoy the magazine, I agree it's due for an overhaul. And bring back landing nets. I'm tired of seeing those fish slapped all over the inside of the boat > . As for FLW, I like their magazine articles better than Bassmaster these days. Quote
basscrusher Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Here's what I want out of BASS...I want them to stop being a commercial front for the fishing industry and become a voice for the angler. BASS is essentially the official mouthpiece of the various big tackle companies, at least a good portion of the time. Bassmaster has recently run 2 articles on how the LA delta seems to not be affected by the BP oil spill...Really? Despite the hundreds by real news organizations claiming otherwise? BASS purport to stand for conservation...then man up and call out BP (and the rest of the big oil corporations) for being irresponsible. My guess is that the editors can't do that out of political ideology. Bass boat makers have essentially priced out many working class anglers from owning a boat, or at least have made many choose whether to purchase a boat or a college education for their kids. Call them out on this. Or at least give it some attention from both sides of the spectrum. BASS Times is also rather one-sided at times when reporting gov't policy changes that affect anglers, but out of respect for this site's rules, that discussion will be reserved for another time and place. In short, BASS needs to represent its readers as much as (if not more than) its advertisers. Quote

It's like Walmart, once you get that big.........people can get mad at the way you do things and it doesn't seem to matter. They are not that big though, financially they are screwed unless the new owners sink a ton of money into it. There is a reason why ESPN tried selling it for 2 years with no buyers. Quote
Guest beowulfx71 Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 they could at least have the foresight to not have the classic the same weekend as Daytona and the NBA all star weekend. Also how about ESPN airing it the same night as it takes place. Quote
Flukeman Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 they could at least have the foresight to not have the classic the same weekend as Daytona and the NBA all star weekend. Also how about ESPN airing it the same night as it takes place. You have to remember, ESPN scheduled the Classic, not the new ownership. I am the membership chair for NY and I have heard nothing but positive about the new ownership taking over. And when it comes to the magazine, last time I checked they out sold the FLW magazine by quite a bit nationwide. I have no complaints with the new ownership, Jerry even came to our state banquet to be the keynote! We wanted more grassroots and I think they are trying to deliver. They have already secured additional TV coverage outside the ESPN nonsense time slot. Give them some time to prove themselves, they have only had the keys for a couple of months. Jeez Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 BASS has been driven by televised media and the image ESPN sought after. I admire the top pros as much as anyone but I can only handle so much of the Skeet/KVD/Ike show. Spread it around. Don't force "big time " bassin into a box that doesn't fit. Let it evolve as itself. It's not NASCAR. There was a day when Ray Scott fished with Presidents and BASS was a voice. There are a number of legislative issues on the table nation wide. Look out Oregon !!!! I hope bass is the power player to represent anglers who support the organization. Quote
