Super User senile1 Posted February 14, 2011 Super User Posted February 14, 2011 From running aground to running out of fuel, it sounds like practice hasn't been too productive for the Classic field. A warming trend this week could improve things, hopefully. See the Bassmaster link below. http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/tournaments/classic/news/story?page=b_classic_11_Russow_Classic_Practice_Wrapup Quote

Super User Tin Posted February 15, 2011 Super User Posted February 15, 2011 Leaning towards Biffle or Klein to finally win one this year. The flippers should do very well. Quote
Carrington Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 i think its funny how these guys are running out of fuel literly hours away from the marinas they launched from. You have to wonder if they even planned the distance at all lol Quote
Bassnajr Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Maybe this is a "rules" question, but can't they carry extra gas..say a 5 gal. container or two? I know weight would be an issue but maybe just an emergency supply so you don't have to call your wife? I can see me doing that!!! "Honey...I am fishing and I ran out of gas and....CLICK....hello?? hello???!!!!! ;D Quote
Super User senile1 Posted February 16, 2011 Author Super User Posted February 16, 2011 So I'm reading about Classic practice today and I find the paragraph below at the following link: http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/tournaments/classic/news/story?page=b_classic_11_suchan_wed_practice. Cold conditions the past week hampered practice, but warming temperatures are expected to heat up the fish. Some found water as cold as 37 degrees on the first day of practice but it has risen significantly and is approaching 60 degrees. That's almost a 23 degree change in just two or three days. Does the water temperature in the Louisiana Delta really change that fast? I actually find it hard to believe that water temperatures were as low as 37 degrees down there. Did someone stick a thermometer into a puddle on a cold day or what? Quote
Bass XL Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Gary Klein just stated on BassCam that his best 5 today went about 17 pounds. Looks like the fishing is getting better! Quote

In the words of Denny Brauer - "that's 17 lbs you won't catch in this tourney now." Yes, but I seriously doubt he swung on every bite and you have to "check some for size". Especially for the Classic when everyone is "swinging for the fences". Any place but first doesn't matter much in the Classic like it does for a regular tour event when earning AOY points. Plus that was Wednesday' practice. If he's targeting an area that won't replenish fish by Friday then it wouldn't matter anyway especially since it is pre-spawn warming trend and the fish will be on the move. Quote

Hey I cant say there was a huge temp change just in 2/3 days but I was on the water a good bit and from the 5th (feb) to the 13th there was a change from 36-38 to 54-57 degrees on the smae exact place that I prewfished then fished in my tournament.
