Flukeman Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I think the whole thing is great. We get an AOY based on the season like it should be. We still have the top 8 guys and we get to pick four wild cards. Not to mention some average joe is going to win a boat. I think it is great for everyone! Quote
tkite16 Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 Yeah I think the setup is cool but what other sports postseason is a popularity contest to get in. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 19, 2011 Super User Posted January 19, 2011 Watch.............Skeet will finish 2nd in AOY points this year, but win the post season. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ;D ;D Quote
preach4bass Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Watch.............Skeet will finish 2nd in AOY points this year, but win the post season. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ;D ;D That would be awesome! On a side note, the four popularity contest winners in the post season is embarrassing to the sport. Quote
diver_sniper Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I'm really glad that you guys don't like the 4 wild cards either. From what I was first hearing everyone liked the idea, but now I'm finding more and more people that think it's stupid. I think it's incredibly stupid. Like someone else said, I understand it, but it's lame. Basically it just ensures that Skeet, Mike Ike, and KVD will be there no matter how their regular season goes. It's bull crap for anyone who places ahead of them in season points. But at the same time it will bring the event more attention having them there. The more attention it gets, the stronger the sport gets. The stronger the sport gets the better it is for us. Kind of a double edged sword. Also, the thing to remember here is that this event is supposed to be the equivalent of an All Star game, not a post season. Really though, they screwed it up and made it a mix of both. I also don't like that first place in this thing gets paid the same that the AOY does. Another dumb thing is that the 4 guys that get voted in will most likely be guys that have enough money to get by without this event. And I bet the 9-12 place in the AOY race turn out to be guys that are barely able to pay their bills. I'm going to vote for whoever is in 9th place in the AOY race no matter who it is. We should all vote for someone 9-12 in the AOY standings. Quote
Flukeman Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 It does not matter if it was 8,10,12, or 20 plus four. The four is just a way to get the fans to play and be boat eligible. This is just an All-star Week no matter what they call it. The real post season is the Classic, that what everyone is competing for all season. And when you fish the Classic is just logistics, end of year or beginning of next, just makes fishing a spawn tourney. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 20, 2011 Super User Posted January 20, 2011 Some would rather not participate, I guess. The vote in wild card is interesting. Quote
tkite16 Posted January 20, 2011 Author Posted January 20, 2011 Okay, I agree this is basically an all star game. But with only 8 real events that means 20% of your events are all star games. Why not at least add another real tournament and then do a four day braketed all star event. That way the top 12 in points and 4 wildcard fish a single all star event. Doesn't this make way more sense? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 20, 2011 Super User Posted January 20, 2011 Yeah I think the setup is cool but what other sports postseason is a popularity contest to get in. BCS? Quote
tkite16 Posted January 20, 2011 Author Posted January 20, 2011 Good point but we can argue if bcs is even postseason. What a joke that is. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I think the 4 vote in's are there for ratings. It ensures that there will be pro's that people want to see and thus, will turn on the tv in order to watch them. The more viewers = better ratings=more commercial $$ Quote

I think the new management is already showing they are listening to the fans with the AOY change. Why not see how the All-star event works, and if its not that great, let them know you'd like to see a different format. I think this is something new they want to try, and maybe tweak it after a go around. I think the 12 number was just a carry over from last year. I say lets give them support and see how it goes before passing negative judgment on their new idea. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 20, 2011 Super User Posted January 20, 2011 That's how I took the end to be - All Star. We get to vote baseball players, so why not. Quote
Bass Dude Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I like their new idea. I don't mind the "fans vote" idea either. I view it like some of you said, as an All-Star tourney. With that said. I would like to say that I also didn't mind the prior 2 yr postseason. Everyone says how it's not the "true" AOY, but here's my view: This year the Patriots at 13-3, lost to a team with a lower record than them. The better team through the year did not win. Same with the NASCAR points system. The leader throughout the year doesn't end up the champion. The point of the season is to get into the postseason where you position yourself to win a championship. I think this was BASS' thought process in that past 2 AOY's. I don't think it took the purity out of anything, I thought it made the AOY race exciting. Maybe they should of still had to fish against a full field, and get the points you would normally get for your finish---Similar to NASCAR. Maybe they shouldn't have shortened the length of the tourney---but I think the overall concept was a cool idea. I know I'm in the minority, but it's not the first time and won't be the last! Quote
