PETA at it again!!

Heard on our local ESPN radio show yesterday that PETA contacted the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to stop their UTC college fishing team.  The show had a director at UTC on the air to discuss it and he said without a doubt, they would not remove the fishing team.  He went on to say how the students in the club acted under the rules of the national organization, worked with wildlife and fisheries folks, and were great ambassadors for the school.   WAY TO GO UTC!!!!!  Now if they could just get their football program going :'(!

i got friends in PETA for some reason and they think when people go hunting and fishing all they are doing is going and killing anything and everything. They dont see, even after the many times i explain, that hunters and fisherman are probably bigger conservationist then anyone because we are out there taking care of our fishing areas, hunting areas, animal and fish populations and advocating this idea of conservationism. Some PETA members dont see it, they get very radical sometimes. Major problem is when they get to wanting to stop hunting and fishing of certain areas they need to do their research and realize some places are supseptable to over population which is worse.

I guess thats my PETA rant for the day haha.

Some of the Tactics PETA uses are more *extreme* then the people they are using it against. I agree with the above post that us fisherman and hunters (usually most outdoorsmen do both) contribute more to conservation efforts every year than all the organizations like PETA and others combined. Our license purchases go to pay for conservation efforts and we will make sure our lakes stay viable as fisheries and our hunting grounds stay populated. In my opinion, most members of PETA just don't understand the feeling outdoorsmen get while hunting or fishing. It's much more than just hooking a fish through the lip or shooting an animal, it's connecting with the spirit of the wilderness, breaking away from the technology that seems to dominate our lives constantly and striving to be something better.

Like Thoreau said "Most men go fishing all their lives, without really realizing it's not fish their after"

i think most peta members are hipocrits cause they say dont eat anything to do with meat and dont hunt or harm an animal. But alot of these people live in houses apartments, cities, etc. I think thats worse because building things can lead to destruction of habitat and i have not or rarely heard any of them ever saying anything about habitat control. Because if they did the would realize that many natural predators are gone, which will lead to over population deer in one case, and then the over abundance of a predator that would lead to scarce populations like cayote in tennessee which has pretty much lead to the demise ofthe whole qual population.

I hate PETA.Most of them are dumber than trash and babble on about crap thats untrue and have the most out of wack opinions.They never know what theyre talking about either theyre very uneducated about things. And ya what you guys said fisherman and hunters do more for the outdoors than anyone else on this planet, and were pretty much some of the only ones. With out fishermen and hunters, everything would plummet. PETA just complains,they dont actualy do anything whatsoever to help the environment. The just complaaaaain and complain.A lot of times over the stupidest crap too.Like one time they tried getting the California Happy Cows commercials over here banned because they "depicted cows grazing on grass over lush rolling hills when really they are in mud holes with bladder infections. While that may be kind of true,thats not the point of the commercials really i mean theyre meant to be funny for one

My next question is if they've ever seen wheat/grain harvested and all the little fuzzy critters that get coincedetnally get thrashed in the process.  Mice/rabits/birds/snakes/toads they all get it.  Not to mention all the insects that are killed by pesticides in agriculture.  It doesn't matter what a human eats, some other critter is going to loose their life in some way because of it.   End of argument. >

To each their own and all but if I found out I had a friend that was a PETA member, they would not be my friend anymore.  I have zero use for leftist wackos.

I agree. I think back in the day when they used to try and rescue animals that are being abused and issues like that are good, valid points but once the extremists came in, there whole point of existence really changed for the worst.

I hate cruelty whatever the circumstances. I feel for the animal being abused and have pity and anger for the human.

However, without animal testing, we would have missed out on a lot of science that benefitted humans as well as animals. The predator /prey relationship is a fact of nature. Man is just an apex predator.

The best thing that an animal can do to ensure its survival, is to become beneficial to humans. Whether its domestication, being game, etc. We understand the ecosystem a lot more now and learning more every day.

I'm sure most of the members of this board practice C/R. No doubt some will die anyway. But, one of the local lakes is encouraging anglers to take home more of the smaller fish, because the numbers of them are too high. I trust most game biologists, they care as much as I do, maybe more. Plus they are a lot more educated in these matters.

PETA is a typical feel good, p/c, style over substance, wacko organization. Who cares if anything is accomplished as long as somebody's ego is stroked.

Well, gotta go organize my tackle box. I knocked it over with the drawers and lid open last Sat when I was fighting a largemouth. The weekend's coming up, you know.

One of their solutions was to stage demonstrations where the organizers would run up to anglers and quote "Use short thick clubs to strike and break the fragile fishing rods of anglers". My first thought was "All Star 7"6 Heavy Action Casting Rod" and your going to attack me with a short stubby club...lol.  ;D

PETA: Just sadly mis-informed, with an unwavering, fanatic based morals. Some love animals so much they have lost their own identity as a human, and no concept of humanity towards humans.  They would rather see a child die than receive life saving medicines, because the medicine was created using animal testing. (However; one of their own Directors has an illness which requires medicine which was derived from animal testing and takes it because her life is more important for the "cause".. can we say hypocrite's?)

Plus they are not above using false hoods to accomplish their goal.(end justifies the means). I don't consider it "ethical" at all.
