BassFishingMachine Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Hey, I did pretty well with shallow cranks today, and I hear there a great bait for fall. So my question is whats your favorite Shallow Crankbaits? The one I've been doing with is called a Lucky Craft Fat cb I believe (Small bill, fat body). By the way, any great colors for fat shallow crankbaits? Such as black/blue is to the jig. Quote
Jake. Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Lucky Craft RC 1.5, or 2.5 If you are going after bigger fish. Bandit Footloose, A classic that catches alot of fish, but make sure to change the hooks on the older models. Lucky Craft Flat Mini SR, A killer bait that doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Zoom Sweet P: Awesome lure. Quote
Stringjam Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Big M "M-Flat" (check the Tackle Making section for his stuff) JawJacker Model B Flat-Shad Rippit, and the Classic PT is killer in cold, clear water. Zoom WEC Hicky and Mutt Spro Little John Rapala Shallow Fat Rap (you'll have to find these on eBay, they disc. them). O.S.P. Blitz, Blitz Max, and HPF Spec 2 Bagley KB1 (with the small round lip) There's many more, but these are some of my favs, and are all readily available and easy to get. Quote
ptomacbass Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 because of tropical storm hanna hanna all of the waters that i fish are very muddy for the time being. lately i've been hooking some good ones on a strike king series 4s crank in black back chartruese. that color shows up really well in the muddy water and the baits rattles are really loud. -nick- Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 The rapala shallow runner in shad color has probably been the most productive cb I have ever used. It's amazing how many fish I've caught with it. Quote

BassFishingMachine Posted September 16, 2008 Author Posted September 16, 2008 As im looking at all these shallow crankbaits, im seeing some in black. Anybody do any well with black crankbaits at dusk/night? Or am I better off sticking with a black or blackblue jitterbug/spinnerbait/chatterbait? Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted September 16, 2008 Super User Posted September 16, 2008 All of the above for me. Yes I do very well on black cranks at night. I will go and buy several cranks at a time and paint them all flat black and then put a coat of Devcon 2 Ton on top of the paint. Works real good for me. Quote

I've had one in the rotation just about all year and it's been very consistent. Quote

Avalonjohn44 Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I have been slaying them on 3 cranks this so far this early fall: RC1.5 Blue back/chartreuse Megabass Griffon in a color called Crack Jungle (green back, clear sides, orange belly) Megabass Cycloe Black and Yellow. All are 0-4 foot divers and have caught 30 bass in the last 3 trips (dinks not included!) I also love the Bandit footloose and 100 series, I just can't put down my megabass baits yet... Quote
TournyFish001 Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 RC 1.5 or 2.5 depending on what they want, if they are really agressive then Luhr Jensen speed trap- These two are all I need for shallow runners. Quote

Avalonjohn44 Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 There are a lot of people saying the Mann's 1minus bait. I have several and have never caught anything on them. Aside from that, I have had several of mine have break too, their lips have fallen off, or cracked down the center... I dunno, maybe I got a few from a bad batch, but this has been a bad luck bait for me... Quote
