Morelures Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Has anyone fished or fish the BFL as a non boater? If so how was the experience? Thanks! Quote

flippincrazy Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I fished the Buckeye BFL for 2 years as a non boater before going to the boater side. It was a great experience for me. I had only fished out of a boat for bass like 2 times before fishing as a coangler, I learned a ton. Most guys are great to fish with, but every once in awhile you'll have a bad experience, but all in all its a great circuit to fish, a great way to learn and make new friends. Quote
booyahfish Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 sure have, was a great time. there are a lot of good people out there in the bfl tournament trail. there are a few stuck ups but most are more than willing to help out as long as you take care of your boater throughout the day neting fish, being considerate of fishing waters, not talking too much and helping out with gas money. Nick Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Agreed, Mr. Booyah. Also, don't try to push your pro down the bank by casting ahead, or within a few feet of his cast. One can look at the co-angler experience ion the BFL as a mighty cheap guide trip with a possible money reward at the end. Quote
lmoore Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I've fished as a non-boater the last two years. One thing I've learned is that the boaters can definitely make or break your tournament. If a guy puts you on fish, be appreciative. The first tournament I ever fished, I found fish stacked up on a rock wall behind our boat while my boater was trying to cover a flat. He thanked me by positioning the boat so I couldn't cast to the spot where I had just caught a nice 3 pounder, caught his limit of 5, then drove off. We never found fish the rest of the day. Something like that is frustrating, but it also makes you appreciate when you get a good boater. Giving a little money for boat gas is a good idea. For the most part, it's a great experience and a great way to develop as an angler, especially if you would like to make the jump to bigger tourneys in the future. Quote
