Sweet Beaver

Hi All, I am currently in experiment mode with my soft plastics, since i have got down the basics of fishing the t-rigged worm.

I have been currently using the fat ikas and sweet beavers.

Have you had success with sweet beavers? In what conditions would these be thrown? Also, are they a go-to bait, or would you only throw these after they have not been hitting a worm? I am just trying to get a feel as to when the best situations to throw these would be.

Sweet beavers are fantastic.  One of the most copied baits out there right now and for good reason, they work.  My best success has come fishing it slowly on the bottom with a bullet weight.  Smallmouth bass just tear these things up.  Largemouth love them too, actually.  They imitate crawfish, which means that they should be used in lakes where crawfish live.  Funny thing is, I've used them in ponds where crayfish definitely do not live and the largemouth don't seem to mind eating them up either.

Pegged T-rig in grass for LMB or fished deep on a football jig for smallies.  Excellent bait.

They are one of my favorite flipping baits, also you can use them as a jig trailer, there bulk really beefs up the profile of the jig and slows the fall, works excellant at times.

I fish the Double Wide as a trailer on a 1/2 oz jig.

I started using them this year and have been very impressed.  I'm usually a crankbait guy, but these beavers are no joke.  I fish them weightless very tight to any structure.  I fish from shore, so I don't get to pitch them like a lot of folks do.  

The beavers are perfect for skipping, btw, I can skip these better than any other bait.

This bait is so amazing I wish I were the one who thought it up first and the only one to have it- simply amazing fish it anyway you can imagine- I panic if I don't have over 50 on the boat with me.  That being said don't use them send them to me... ;D

Definately one of my go to plastics, usually fish with a 1/8 - 1/4 oz slip sinker. At times if fishing heavy cover I might peg with a heavier sinker or their are times when I fish it weightless. The smallie beaver is good on a jighead fished shaky syle. Also effective on a C-rig, a very versatile bait. It also seems to catch "jig fish" that is larger fish than what I usually catch on most other soft baits.
